Today we’d like to introduce you to Kris Greil.
Hi Kris, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Growing up in Pittsburgh at a young age and being around so many diverse people I was able to experience all different types of music which would then lead me to find an artist that was also from Pittsburgh who went by the name of Mac Miller and it was then that I started to love music but it wouldn’t be until years later at the age of 19 that I would find myself joking around about featuring in a song with my friend which would then lead to me to having my first studio session and having a part in his next song.
Fast forward a few months and I am still making music when my cousin heard a snippet of something I was working on and asked if he could introduce me to someone who was in the music scene and would help me with my journey as a newfound artist. After a little while of showing everyone what I was capable of he offered me to join his team which included him and two other members and one being my cousin. I saw this as a good opportunity to dive into the industry and see what it was all about.
Fast forward to now and I am happy to say I’m still a part of the group named “Zkivu Park”, and since joining have released numerous pieces not only by myself but with others, and been featured in numerous shows around Pittsburgh area, and have had the chance to make new connections with people from all over the country grow my fanbase up and just making new friends.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Something that acted as an obstacle and challenge throughout my whole process and continues to affect me to this day as an artist would be writer’s block because you don’t know how long it could last and it can get frustrating not being to think of what you should say it and sometimes it could last weeks and its only when you get a sliver of inspiration that you fully jump back into it again.
Another thing that’s a challenge for me is finding or making the right beat because it has to be able to fit my mood or sometimes since I’m picky the beat will have to sound perfect in my head or I won’t be able to write to it. Another challenge would be getting people to find and listen to my music and since there are so many people out there making music mine could easily slip under the radar and never be heard.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My work consists of writing and producing music while under the group “Zkivu Park”. I specialize in creating different genres of music such as hip-hop, pop, and R&B. The thing I’m most known for is incorporating my feelings and personal experiences into my music.
As an introverted and shy person being social is one of the hardest things for me so the thing I would say I am most proud of is my growth as a person who went from mostly staying to myself and my inner circle to someone who can now not only distribute music for anyone to hear but also go out and perform in front of crowds.
I believe the thing that sets me apart from others is that people who are on the same career path as me will let others dictate their style of music just to please their followers and although I appreciate my fans and everyone who supports me I will always create the music that I enjoy because, in my opinion, you owe it to the listeners to be authentic and pour yourself into your music.
So maybe we end by discussing what matters most to you and why?
The thing that matters to me the most is just enjoying what I do and how it makes other people feel when they hear it. Someone once said that “If you love what you do you’ll never work a day in your life” and when I heard this I decided that these were some of the words I live by because if you’re only doing what someone like me does and your main goal is to become rich and famous then once you get to where you wanna be what’s left?
But if you love making music and enjoy the reactions people get when they hear your music then that’s how you know you’re in it for the long run because there will always be someone that listens to your music for the first time and maybe it’s not their favorite song but if they can enjoy themselves while listening to it then that’s all that matters to me.
