Meet Laura Norris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Norris.

Laura Norris

Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started Land, Atmosphere, and Marine Assessment (LAMA) almost four years ago to help educate others on the beauty of our planet. A friend and I wanted to create a business to express our desire to help the environment and wildlife. I have been a wildlife rehabber and environmental science professor for 10 years, and I use what I teach in the classroom to enhance the content of my website.

I love what I do. Introducing readers and students to their natural environment and how to care for it can change their perspectives and benefit the health of the planet. LAMA has a unique, simple-to-use environmental health rating scale. By pulling up the scale, you can see how healthy different landscapes and climates are.

This rating scale can be used by teachers and children to understand how ecosystems are being impacted by pollution and climate change. When you visit the website, you can also read fascinating interviews with climate scientists, ecology professors from all over the world, and even the volunteers at the Colorado Pika Project. Soon, t-shirts, adorable studded animals, coloring books, and educational guides will be available through the website.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was not a smooth road to starting an environmental educational service, and it still has many challenges. Where do I begin? was the first challenge. What is the statement I want to convey? I had knowledge of the environmental sustainability template I wanted to use, but I needed much more advice and information to truly make it a wealth of information.

This meant spending time researching environmental professionals who are experts in their subject. Then contact them for interviews. It also meant educating myself on what makes a successful environmental education business. It wasn’t time-consuming because I loved every minute of what I was doing. It is a journey, but I am dedicated to making an impact on others to protect the environment.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Writing is my way of expressing all the knowledge and thoughts I can’t express through spoken words. Years of education and hands-on experience have provided me with a superb command of my subject. I write about the importance of knowing ecological concepts.

Whether through interviews, my blog, or books, Nature Tails Stories from Backyard Wildlife is a series of children’s nature books I’ve written. These books are colorful stories that connect children to nature in order to encourage future generations to get outside and enjoy the wildlife with which they share the planet.

Nature-based education helps children think beyond their small world and expands their physical and mental development.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Connecting to the world It isn’t easy helping others find their way to our website. LAMA has to be engaging with high-quality content to attract and keep readers.

The environment is ever-changing, so I need to stay relevant with new interviews and research. Unfortunately, our ecosystems are always being degraded, damaged, and destroyed, so I need my LAMA supporters to get the word out to accelerate its recovery.
