Meet Lauren Weller of Lauren Weller Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Weller

Hi Lauren, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always had a deep appreciation for photography, even as a little girl. I remember flipping through my grandmother’s photo albums, filled with black-and-white images of her childhood on a farm in small-town Pennsylvania. Those simple, timeless moments captured on film sparked something in me.

In high school, I explored film photography, which deepened my curiosity, but it wasn’t until I became a mother that I took photography seriously. Watching my son grow and change so quickly made me realize how fleeting time is. I felt a deep longing to preserve the ordinary, heartfelt moments we shared at home. That’s when I picked up a used Sony camera and began teaching myself photography.

My first sessions were homegrown—shooting in my kitchen, my son’s nursery, and an open field outside our house. What started as a way to document toddlerhood quickly turned into something more. I immersed myself in learning, soaking up every bit of education I could find—watching videos, reading articles, seeking mentorship, assisting, second-shooting, and asking friends and family if I could photograph them.

While I’m only a year into this journey, I’ve already found so much joy and fulfillment. Photography has become a way for me to connect with people and tell their stories, and I’m continually inspired to grow and refine my craft. This season has been a beautiful evolution, and I feel so grateful to be pursuing something I’m deeply passionate about.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road hasn’t always been smooth. In 2023, I went through some heavy life changes, and for a while, I lost my sense of expression through art. Photography took a backseat during those months. I simply didn’t have the desire to pick up my camera or create.

Then, this past summer, I took on a marketing position at Sylvan Dale Guest Ranch, in the foothills of Colorado. Part of my role involved documenting the western lifestyle and the 78-year legacy of this incredible dude ranch. It’s a lifestyle I’ve admired for so long—one that not many get to experience firsthand.

Having grown up riding horses and showing in the English discipline, stepping back into this world felt like coming home. There’s something warm and familiar about the smell of hay, the dust in the air, and the sounds of the barn. This experience not only helped me reconnect with photography, but reignited my creativity and reminded me of the beauty in capturing authentic moments. It’s been a journey of rediscovery, yet I’m grateful for how these challenges have shaped both my life and my work.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m Lauren, the heart behind Lauren Weller Photography. My business mantra is simple: capturing life as it is. This philosophy guides every session I book, and it’s deeply rooted in my love for simplicity and movement.

I’m drawn to the ordinary, fleeting moments of life—the ones we often overlook but that hold so much meaning. Whether it’s the aroma of morning coffee, sunlight filtering through leaves, or the way a child’s laughter fills the air, these are the moments that make life beautiful. My work focuses on cherishing these small, seemingly insignificant experiences, because they’re the ones that truly matter.

I specialize in creating intimate, unfiltered imagery for mothers, families, and couples who value authenticity. My style is grounded in nature and the outdoors, capturing people in a way that feels organic and true to who they are.

What sets my brand apart is its emphasis on connection over perfection. I don’t strive for posed or polished; instead, I focus on telling stories—your stories—through natural, heartfelt imagery.

I’m humbled yet proud to offer a service that helps my clients see the beauty in their everyday lives, and I want readers to know that when you book with me, you’re choosing more than a photographer. I don’t just show up to take photos; I show up to connect. I pay attention to the quiet moments—how a mother gently brushes her child’s hair out of their face, the way tiny feet patter down the hallway, or little hands in the dirt. It’s about creating a space where you can feel comfortable and be yourself.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
If I could offer advice to those just starting out, it would be this: give yourself permission to grow at your own pace. When I first began, I often felt overwhelmed by how much there was to learn and how polished everyone else’s work seemed. What I wish I knew back then is that nobody starts out as an expert, and comparing your beginning to someone else’s middle is unfair to your journey.

Start small. Use the tools you have and focus on creating. Some of my most meaningful work came from practicing in my own home with my son or asking friends and family to be my subjects. This not only built my confidence but also helped me define my style.

Invest in education and community.

Lastly, embrace the process. There will be mistakes, moments of doubt, and projects that don’t go as planned, but these experiences are where you’ll grow the most. Celebrate your progress, no matter how small, and remember why you started—because you love it.
