Today we’d like to introduce you to Lia Eyre.
Hi Lia, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
We are the Eyre’s of @llamallamaadventure. Mom (Lia), Dad (Trevor), two-legged human (daughter- Lennon), and two furry children (dogs- Banana Pig & Mango Salsa). We have lived nomadically for going on 3 years. We lived 1 year (and winter 🥶) stationary in Idaho after plunging into RV life with zero experience around RVs. We were avid backpackers, hikers, and tent campers previously, and wanted to find a way to get into nature more often and for longer. 🌲 Insert RV life! We have been adventuring through the USA full time for 2 years in our 36-foot Keystone Sprinter Campfire 31FWMB (home). We move every 1-3 weeks and have been to 18 states and on so many adventures! 🗺
We plan to live the nomad lifestyle long term. Not exactly sure the details on how that looks long-term, but for now the fifth wheel is a perfect starting line.
We are working towards our leading goal of being 100% debt free and once we have accomplished that (the goal is after 5 years as nomads) we may throw in some lifestyle modifiers like land or investment properties, Airbnbs, or something of the sort. But, for now, this is what our life looks like— and we really like it.
We have embraced that we are different and we really want to help others to do the same. 😍 We have built a community through Instagram where we encourage others to Find Their Wild! 👹 We share our cruelty-free finds 🐰, obsessions with hiking and sipping sour beers 🥾 🍻, along with my journey through birth trauma, PTSD, and anxiety. We are thrilled for the opportunity to share our adventures with others and help them create their own best versions of themselves.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road of a nomad with a house on wheels is not always smooth. I mean, we literally drive our 36-foot house and everything we own down the road at over to mph every 2 weeks on average and have done that over 100 times now. Things break. And they break often. Neither of us are handy, what-so-ever. But we have learned so much! We perform almost all of the RV maintenance and repairs on our rig ourselves. YouTube and our community have been the pillars in that success.
Prior to being nomads, we had never owned anything aside from a few vehicles. We had to trade in both of our vehicles to purchase our truck when we made the decision to jump into this lifestyle. We owned a Mini Cooper and a Mazda CX-5. We left the trade-in with a Dodge Ram 3500. Talk about a BIG change! Throw in a 36-foot fifth wheel for two humans that had never towed anything before and you have a very bumpy road. The only thing I can say about that is practice, practice, practice, and patience, patience, patience. These are great tools.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
For me, being on this journey with my family is a show of success in breaking free from traditional and societal norms. 👏 We got creative with life! We share it all on social media and gaining success in this venture is not just for others, although that is a bonus. 😉 We are living this lifestyle to enjoy more time together and to show our daughter that you don’t have to work a 9-5 to make it in this world! 🌎 the options are endless, really. This is just the one we chose.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
My “why” is for the wanderers. That old saying, “Not all who wander are lost.”, is so true. I found myself on the road while sharing and connecting with others over the internet. I never could have imagined this is where I would find myself, but here we are. 😁 Happily ever after is possible.
