Meet Lindsay May of The Happy Marketing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay May.

Hi Lindsay, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been a creative person since a very young age. When I was in high school, I wanted to be a chef, then a fashion designer, then a veterinarian. But in college, I discovered my love for writing and telling stories. I started working for several different publications throughout Colorado, and I was obsessed with travel writing and interviewing celebrities.

But after about six years, I knew it was time to move on. So, I started my career in marketing and worked my way up to managing marketing and operations teams for big agencies and brands. I then started to notice a shift in my energy — I was working 60+ hours a week, completely burned out, and hopeless in my career.

So, in December of 2022, I decided to leave corporate behind and start my own business, The Happy Marketing Co. I now lead my career with balance, happiness, and motivation. I help my clients achieve results in their business, all while making sure business doesn’t get in the way of life and being truly happy and fulfilled.

I now also have a podcast called The Happy LeadHer. I talk about my experience as a new entrepreneur, share life stories, and connect with incredible female entrepreneurs about their stories.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road at all! When I first started my business, I was trying to get any and every client I could get. I went from having one boss in corporate to having five bosses (my clients), and I started to get burned out again. Then I started to realize how inconsistent running your own business can be.

One of the biggest struggles I’ve faced as a business owner is almost giving up on myself. It’s easy to throw in the towel and go back to a corporate job when it gets tough. But I knew I had to believe in myself and keep going. It’s likely never going to be consistent and super easy, but I’m learning that this is what I’ve wanted all this time: to own a business, help clients in a successful yet balanced way, and live a life I’m so proud of.

The Happy Marketing Co. is an SEO and website firm focused on helping clients scale their businesses via strategic website optimizations and website design.
