Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Fierer. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Lisa Fierer’s memoir shares her path from rage toward forgiveness. After losing her mother to domestic violence at the hands of her father, Lisa got angry, got addicted, got clean, and started on a path that transformed her from a punk-ass to an inspirational teacher. Along the way, she discovered a new ‘f-word,’ Forgiveness. Thirst 4 Forgiveness, a forgiveness revolution, was born. Today, through humor, storytelling, and yogic principles, Lisa inspires people to let go of debilitating beliefs and discover the joy of life without these bonds.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In addition to the obstacle course of life, Lisa encountered many obstacles on the path to releasing her memoir, Thirst. After pursuing mainstream publishing (including pitches to agents with a layout akin to speed dating), Lisa gained the confidence to self-publish her memoir. Thirst earned the prestigious Writer’s Digest’s Self-Published award and was number one at the Boulder Bookstore with her book launch. All proceeds from the Audible sales of Thirst (narrated by Nina Rolle) benefit The Safehouse Progressive Alliance for Nonviolence.
Reading books was a way for Lisa to escape the violence in her home as a child. But she never read a book with any characters that faced the challenges Lisa was facing. Decades later she knew she needed to write her story so that anyone who’s experienced fear in their home, anyone who’s struggling with complexities around forgiveness, could glean hope that there’s a way through. In speaking engagements, workshops, and Thirst for Forgiveness Yoga, Lisa shares tools that continue to aid many on their quest to live a more joyful life.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Lisa Fierer is an original thinker in the field of forgiveness. Her work dismantles misperceptions about the ease of moving through hurt into healing. Our culture implies that forgiveness is a simplistic moral virtue; that forgiveness is as easy as the Nike tagline, “Just do it.” In the world of forgiveness, this is a myth that Fierer dispels.
Lisa’s award-winning memoir, Thirst, ignites a new way of viewing loss, violence and betrayal: these hurtful, human experiences can create a deep desire for something she calls “the new F-word”: Forgiveness. Forgiveness does not mean we cannot be angry. It means we refuse to let anger destroy us.
Thirst for Forgiveness is a revolution connecting one another through story and collective empowerment. Lisa uses humor and intense vulnerability to spark conversations. Through hard-won experience, she offers tools to express anger, rage, hurt, grief, and loss in healthy ways.
Fierer’s animated method of engaging creates long-lasting impact for her audiences. Her mission is to spark curiosity, contemplation, and collaboration in the field of forgiveness in order to amplify healing- both individually and collectively.
