Today we’d like to introduce you to Liz Hill & Margaret Moton. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Resourceful Threads was started as an upcycled clothing brand in the early 2000s by Mary Sweeny in Atlanta, Georgia. Mary repaired and embellished second-hand clothing to give them new life and keep them out of a landfill. Ready to retire from the business but hopeful to continue her mission to recycle clothes, Mary reached out to her long-time friend and protégé, Margaret Anne Moton.
Margaret and her friend Liz Hill revamped Resourceful Threads in Denver, CO in March 2022. We at Resourceful Threads set out on our mission to reduce the harm fast fashion creates by collecting second-hand clothing from thrift stores, friends, and their closets, ripping them apart, and sewing them back together in a fresh, funky way.
Capable of full customization, we have evolved our designs to be inclusive for everybody. Today, Resourceful Threads still proudly keeps clothing out of landfills and improves our design to comfortably fit all bodies.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not. Haha! But in life, nothing is. Neither of us had ever started, let alone run a business before, so every day we learn something new.
We are excited about our future and look forward to finding more people to connect with, develop more designs, and continue to exemplify a fashion company committed to beautiful, sustainable, inclusive clothing.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Resourceful Threads specializes in garment reconstruction. We are constantly inspired by the people around us and the problem-solving of using 100% recycled materials.
We love finding ways to make clothes that already exist more functional and fashionable to better our planet and our consumers. Resourceful Threads is very proud to be the first brand to design and create Denver Fashion Week’s first completely adaptable clothing line to be featured on the runway last May 2023.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Here at Resourceful Threads, we are very proud to use 100% recycled materials down zippers and thread. We are committed to sustainability to better the planet and the lives of the people around us.
We provide more than just fashionable clothes, we also use our brand to educate people about the dangers of fast fashion and look forward to a brighter future.
