Meet Lucie Geraci

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucie Geraci.

Hi Lucie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My journey with yoga began over 10 years ago after having to be very convinced (read: “begged”) to do yoga. At the time, yoga felt intimidating, exclusive, and definitely, some box I had to fit into. With help from wonderful mentors and teachers, I found community, sanctuary, and growth. I felt called to deepen my education so yoga can be for truly everybody. I was inspired, not only from my own experience but from my community to design my yoga classes to be inclusive and accessible.

I strive to inspire confidence – no judgment or apologies. Since then, I have designed and led numerous Teacher Training, Workshops, Retreats, and Mentoring Programs. As a 500 Hour Yoga Teacher, I have also received certifications in Yin Yoga, Prenatal Yoga, Paddleboard Yoga, Sound Healing, and Personal Training. When not teaching, you can find me climbing or hiking with my pup!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth road? Ha! Is it for anybody? Like many of my peers, I am in the process of unlearning. Not only understanding where I am in relation to power and privilege but also evaluating the power and privilege of those who taught me.

I am a white, cis-gendered, able-bodied woman teaching classes and training from a culture that is not my own. It is my work to question the way things have been done and to continually reassess my role and my responsibility to the yoga community.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
It is no secret that I am passionate about anatomy, Having an anatomical understanding allows me to tailor custom classes to individuals. One size does not fit all nor should it. I am certain feelings of “enoughness” are not unfamiliar to yoga practitioners or even preventing those from trying. I love empowering my students to embrace where they are at and make yoga fit their body and life style-not the other way around.

Working with athletes is my specialty. I love using yoga theory to balance, strengthen and restore the needs of climbers, cyclists, runners, you name it!

I am most proud of the 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training that I have designed with Better Buzz Yoga and Earth Treks. Our training is heavily focused on social justice, equity, and inclusion while honoring the authentic roots of Yoga. What is super unique about the training is the length. The training is 7 months long so the teachings and lessons and is fully integrated.

With this amount of time, I was able to bring in specialists on topics such as Trauma-Informed Yoga, Accessibility, Yoga for Traumatic Brain Injury, and Yoga for Pregnancy. Further, we delve into advanced anatomy and philosophy and how they inform inclusive sequencing.

What does success mean to you?
Success for me is an uplifted community. I feel successful when I not only see growth within myself, but I can also elevate those around me. Nothing makes me happier than fostering confidence in my students or using my platform to amplify the voice of my peers.
