Meet Marquitta Foster

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marquitta Foster.

Hi Marquitta, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Since I was a kid, I’ve always loved sports. I ran track and loved going to my gym class when we would lift weights. In 2014 I had my daughter and it was a very stressful because she came at 29 weeks and stayed in the NICU for fifty days and during that time it was extremely hard. I worked from home and spent as much time as I could with my daughter at the NICU. I couldn’t take maternity leave even when she was able to come. I was so happy to just have my baby so I made it work. Later in 2016, my daughter was diagnosed with Autism. Scariest time of my life because I had no idea how to handle everything that came with it but I did tons of research and adjusted my life around therapy. In 2017 my position was relocated to another state and I was laid off. Worst timing because most jobs didn’t allow you to work from home and with my daughter’s Autism, I needed flexibility. I fell deeper into a depression. I never knew I was even depressed until I got laid off. Being laid off forced me to evolve in so many ways. I had to really get a grip on my own personal physical and mental health. I started working out and as others seen my results they asked for help. That lead me to become a personal trainer. Becoming the best version of me saved my life and I had to help as many women as possible reach the same place. Once I became a personal trainer a few years later I became a certified Xtreme Hip hop instructor. I love creating classes and an environment that makes women feel safe to be who they are while reaching their fitness goals.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Starting a business has lots of ups and downs especially when you have to juggle so much. Having a child on the spectrum made it challenging because of therapy with work and my clients. At one point I worked as a Lyft driver because I couldn’t afford to keep my car and I at Amazon. I always made sure to keep a few hours a week to train my clients. Being a personal trainer at a gym when you don’t make enough to pay your bills. Fast forward two years in I was training full time and covid hit and once the gyms shut down most clients quit because they preferred in-person training. Once things started opening back up, I was able to rent a space for classes and personal session but it was so expensive and I could only have a few people in each class so once again I was back home. Saved and partnered up with friends and was able to afford to rent out a space in Denver where I currently am now. I still have months where it’s a challenge to pay rent with Covid but I love having a space where women can come and not feel intimidated while exercising.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?

Growing and now I’m an extremely shy person but that goes away when I’m training or hosting a class. Helping other people overcome and become their best version is literally what drives me. I use to feel sick anytime I had to present or teach in front of a crowd.
