Today, we’d like to introduce you to Mary Williams.
Hi Mary, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
We opened in 1996 in Boulder, Colorado. Our first location was on 21st and Pearl. We were there for 16 years. We then moved to the east side of the city and rented part of a big warehouse. We have been at this location for 13 years.
We are proud of the amazing story of keeping a true fine art gallery open for 29 years. This track record is due to my amazing team, the loyal collectors, and the special men and women we represent.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Our road has many stories. We have almost lost the gallery 4 different times over the 29 years. And I mean really coming right down to the wire. But Mary Williams Fine Arts is the cat with nine lives. The events of 9-11, the 500-year Boulder flood, and the Great Recession of 2008 all took us down very tough roads.
Little miracles happen often in small businesses. The miracles that saved us those 4 times were the equivalent of a Hail Mary Pass in the Super Bowl!! We practice gratitude and thanks regarding the stories life has given us. The good news? Most of the stories have a happy ending. The other good news? This “Little Engine That Could” (our nickname by the way) just keeps on rolling down the track.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have worked in the field of fine art for the last 40 years. We specialize in the representation of some of America’s finest artists. They come from all over America. We feature oil, pastel, acrylic, colored pencil, watercolor, and sculpture. We are known for fine art, fine custom framing, great art openings, and being a very friendly and approachable gallery.
Pinpointing what we are most proud of is tough. In the overall picture, I am most proud of the collaboration of my team, my collectors, and the artists. We have danced together for 29 years to make the gallery still vital after these many years. The above sentence is what sets us apart. Lucky all of us!
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I am too old to think this way. I wake up every day and think of today only. That’s it.
