Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Thomson.
Hi Matt, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was a middle school math teacher for 8 years, and fell into real estate almost by accident in 2004. I was fortunate enough to have a great coach and a couple of great mentors, and within a few years was one of the top producing Realtors in the Seattle market.
My production success gave me opportunities in brokerage ownership and continuing education for Realtors, and eventually business education for all small business owners.
We had the opportunity to move from Seattle to Littleton in 2013 to take a leadership role in one of the real estate franchises I was a part of.
With a few twists and turns, I have been able to start 2 different real estate companies in Colorado, as well as continue the education journey training real estate agents and small business owners.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all. I have had struggles with market changes, increased technology (when I started, we were still filling out contracts by hand and faxing them), personal struggles dealing with pride and ego, and learning how to keep my business going strong while raising a family.
Add to that the challenge of moving from Seattle to Denver, and there have been multiple struggles.
We’ve been impressed with Matt Thomson–Key Realty, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a residential real estate broker, and while the majority of my business is traditional residential real estate, I have become well known for my work in large acreage and equestrian properties.
All real estate agents can help people buy and sell a home, and I have the knowledge and connections to really assist in horse properties and other large lot properties.
I am well tied into the local horse scene, own a horse property and multiple horses myself, and love sharing this with others.
I also use my background as a teacher with a Masters Degree in Education to help people really understand investing in real estate.
We own multiple properties in multiple states, and I love teaching people how they can build wealth through real estate as well as build their dream lifestyle through communities and homes.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I grew up on nearly 70 acres outside of Park City, UT, but had a 35 year stretch of my life where I wasn’t around horses at all. It wasn’t until we moved to Colorado and my oldest daughter found horses that I got back into horses and this lifestyle.
