Meet Matthew Repplinger of Pro Positive Yoga

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Repplinger

Hi Matthew, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m what you might call a “baseball lifer”. Everything I do and have done for my entire life has revolved around the game. I’ve worked in baseball now well over two decades. After my college career was over as a player and a student I got my start with the local 9 (The Colorado Rockies) working in Season Tickets. That morphed into several other roles within the orgainzation and in 2006 I created the first LGBTQ PRIDE Night in Major League Baseball History. I was fortunate to have been with the club from 2002 through the National League pennant winning Rocktober of 2007. After that season I spent a year with the now defunct Colorado Crush where I discovered the benefits of yoga for athletes from team yoga instructor “Yoga Danny” Danny Poole. I became an avid yogi and a few years later while employed by Major League Baseball I realized the need for yoga within baseball. This was roughly the same time my first book was released “Baseball in Denver”. I’ve been fortunate to have been featured in numerous national MLB articles on baseball and yoga and was the first to have been entitled a “baseball yoga consultant” at the highest level. I’ve helped popularize the trend of YOGA Days within Major League Baseball having worked with now half of the 30 teams in differing capacities coordinating such events. I helped create the first of its kind “Yoga on the Ice” event in NHL history with our local Colorado Avalanche. This year in 2024 I’m consulting the New York Yankees for their first ever “Yoga Night” June 21st celebrating International Day of Yoga. I manage the Martinez Sturgeon in Martinez California which keeps me consumed with my favorite pastime, winning baseball games. For 17 seasons I was the GM of Denver’s winningest baseball organization the Denver Browns. Baseball has always been at the forefront of my life and because of this I feel immensely blessed to get to do what I love.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve attended the Baseball Winter Meetings every year since 2011. When I began to advocate yoga to teams I received a great deal of push back. I recall once having a conversation with the great Tony LaRussa that he actually scratched his head the entire conversation concluded by laughing in my face stating he doesn’t see how the two correlate whatsoever and good luck. Thankfully progressive GM’s such as Jerry Dipoto and others have become more open-minded to the point virtually every MLB team incorporates yoga in some way or another.

We’ve been impressed with Pro Positive Yoga, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m most proud I get to work with ballplayers at every level, from big leaguers to little leaguers. I’ve taught yoga and meditation to my Alma Mater Heritage High School Baseball for over 8 years now in addition to several little league teams throughout the Denver area. While I spend the bulk of my time in Phoenix and California it always brings me a great deal of joy and satisfaction having a connection to the baseball playing youth in Colorado, where I’m from.

How do you think about happiness?
Being a part of a team. I’ve never been married nor do I have any kids. My connection to my teammates and those I get to work with has always been a true joy.
