Meet Megan Brown of The Magick Bean

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Brown.

Hi Megan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always loved the environment that a coffee shop offers. I love the community that gets built, getting to know regulars, being able to uplift someones day with a simple cup of coffee and willingness to listen. The relationships that I’ve built at every coffee shop that I’ve worked at in the past are mostly still in tact even though many are over a decade long. And all of them happened by serving them coffee and being there for them in the good, the bad, and the mundane. When I moved up to Fort Morgan I wasn’t sure how to recreate that here. I applied at coffee shops, started a craft business and worked markets, but what I knew that I really wanted to create a coffee shop that was back to the basics of coffee and connections. When I saw that the space at The Block was available I felt that it was perfect because their mission is centered around community building and connections as well. Over the last nearly two years that The Magick Bean has been open we’ve meet amazing people, created relationships with both regulars and other businesses, and been able to launch an annual Holistic Fair and Renaissance Festival. It’s been a real adventure that will hopefully continue as long as possible!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road to opening was surprisingly smooth, we got set up and going incredibly easy. Since then there have been some struggles with figuring out the best way to reach everyone. Facebook is one of the best ways but we want to reach those who are not seeing our content as well. Keeping the growth is really the hardest thing we are dealing with.

We’ve been impressed with The Magick Bean, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Magick Bean is not just a coffee shop. We aim to be a helpful launching ground for other small businesses. We have shelves set aside for anyone needing a place to get their product in front of others. We love being an opportunity for bakers to get their product out through us and hopefully be able to succeed through us. We host classes monthly to create an amazingly supportive community where everyone comes out not just to learn the topic but get to know each other and be there for one another through tough times and congratulate wins in life. The thing we are most proud of is the community that we’ve built and hope to continue building through small connections over coffee. If coming in and getting a treat turns some ones rough start of a day into something better, even for that moment, we feel like we’ve won.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I think the most important piece to our success is that we’re genuine. The intent behind everything we do comes from a very real place of wanting everyone we meet to succeed at whatever they are doing just as much as we hope to succeed.
