Today we’d like to introduce you to Melanie Oneche.
Hi Melanie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi, my name is Melanie and I was 9 years old when I realized that traveling the world was my mission in this big blue ball. I am from Argentina, my first trips were to the coast of my country, then I went to London to finish my English studies. But to be honest, my heart was always pointing to the US. My first step in this land was in Florida, I enjoyed Miami and Orlando. I was really happy. I wanted to come back because I felt that it wasn’t enough.
So, I made an important decision in my life. I left my family – we are really close- and I took a flight to Lake Tahoe, California for 4 months. I worked in a ski resort and my mind changed completely. I kind of had a waking call from the universe. Many questions came to my head, like what am I doing? what do I want for my future? do I really enjoy my office life in Argentina? And suddenly, my thoughts were clear.
I decided to make a really big change, I got and special visa, and I’ll be 2 years in the US. I live in Houston currently, but when I went to Colorado looking for the nature that I can’t find in Texas, I confirmed that Colorado blew my mind as I thought it would. I felt at home, with all the mountains, the trees, the kindness of the locals, the way they live, and the vibes of the place. I totally wanted to stay.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Well, leaving my family behind is always the hardest thing. But being by myself and seeing that my dreams are coming true, makes me feel at home. With them. They are always supporting me from distance.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I studied Marketing in Argentina. So now I am a freelancer, working in the social media area. I really enjoy it and also it allows me to work from everywhere. So I think it’s the perfect match for the travel life that I love. I only need a computer, phone, and wifi.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
As I said, the vibes of Denver were amazing for me. It was what I needed.
The mix of pure nature – you can see mountains from everywhere – and the kindness of the locals. I think they take life easy, a more relaxed way of living and for me, that’s the right path. To be honest, I didn’t find something I didn’t like at all.
