Meet Melissa Parr of Parker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Parr.

Hi Melissa, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am Melissa Parr, owner and lead designer of Sheer Interiors. I am a graduate of the University of Florida with a bachelor’s degree in Interior Design. I grew up in Orlando and moved to Jacksonville, Florida upon graduation. I worked for two years in commercial design at a furniture dealer before realizing my passion was in residential design working directly with clients in their homes. I soon teamed up with my wonderful mentor, Liz Studer of Decorator Girl. Together, we grew the company as well as our brand. She taught me all about design and I brought my technological skills to the team. As we know, life always throws you a curveball when you are least expecting it. My husband, Ryan, got a fantastic job offer in Colorado so we decided to make the move across the country. Upon arrival, I decided it was time to live out my dream of owning my own company. Thus, Sheer Interiors was born. I have always had a passion for being creative, pushing the design envelope, and making my client’s vision come true. Since launching my own firm, I have been featured in Architectural Digest and I have two spreads in Summit County Home Magazine. I have a portfolio full of amazing projects, not only in Colorado but all across the US and in Mexico. My goal is to always create what my client’s dare to dream.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I have always built a foundation for my business on relationships and word of mouth. I have found that a happy client is the best reference for future business and I have always found success in connections within my community and those principals have led to a successful career in design.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I love to design specifically for my client’s and their vision so no two projects are ever the same. I always say that Sheer Interiors is centered around “Client-Based Design” so my client’s are in the drivers seat when it comes to how involved I am in their projects and the design style that we proceed with. I like to make my client’s style come to life, instead of projecting my own designs on them. I think having my client’s heavily involved in the design process really helps to have a successful end result. I also charge hourly for my services so I can make myself available to anyone and everyone who needs design assistance.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
If you wanted to install a new plumbing fixture in your home and you had no clue how to do so, you would call a plumber, right? There are so many advantages to hiring a professional to help you with any project. They have specialized knowledge in their field that can add a lot of value to your project. As a designer, I am constantly saving people money or sharing trade secrets that immensely help my clients with their projects. I have been in the industry for over twelve years and I have seen a lot of people make mistakes before they call me. My job is to help save you from making those costly mistakes, all while providing valuable insight in to the design process and helping you create a beautiful space.
