Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Smith.
Hi Michael, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My story has always revolved around cars, problem-solving, and building things that last. I started out working in shops where I learned the foundations of mechanical repair and fabrication, and over the years I specialized in vehicles built for more than just the pavement.
As I gained experience, I saw a real need in our community — people wanted honest mechanical work and upgrades tailored to Colorado’s rugged terrain and lifestyle. That’s what inspired me to start Mike’s Auto Outfitters in Evergreen. We focus on overlanding rigs, suspension upgrades, custom fabrication, snowplows, and mechanical services that keep vehicles ready for both everyday life and weekend adventures.
This business is the result of years of turning wrenches, solving problems, and listening to what people really want out of their trucks and SUVs. I’ve built Mike’s Auto Outfitters on the belief that your vehicle should be as ready for the trail as it is for the daily drive — and I take pride in helping people get there.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. Starting a shop in a mountain town means facing challenges like weather, supply delays, and learning to wear every hat as a business owner. But each obstacle has pushed me to adapt, grow, and build real trust with the community.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Mikes Auto Outfitter?
Mike’s Auto Outfitter is all about helping people get the most out of their rigs — whether that means daily dependability, weekend trail adventures, or gearing up for overlanding. We specialize in suspension upgrades, custom builds, and honest mechanical work that keeps vehicles road- and trail-ready. We also install customer-supplied parts (with the exception of warranties) and are proud to be a Dirt King dealer.
What sets us apart is that we don’t just work on off-road builds — we live the lifestyle. When we’re not in the shop, we’re out on the trails testing gear, pushing our rigs, and seeing firsthand what works in Colorado’s rugged terrain. That passion comes through in every job we take on.
What I’m most proud of is building trust in our community. People know when they bring their vehicle here, it’s going to be done right, with care, and with the same attention to detail I’d give my own truck. At the end of the day, it’s more than just auto work — it’s about equipping people for their next adventure.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Perseverance and integrity. Success in this industry doesn’t come overnight—it’s built on showing up every day, doing the work right the first time, and standing by your word. Customers trust us because we’re honest, reliable, and willing to go the extra mile no matter how tough the job gets.
