Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle MacCarthy.
Hi Michelle, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I played competitive volleyball growing up and played at the D1 level. After over a decade of playing and seeing chiropractors and having all sorts of aches and pains, I stumbled upon chiropractors that does the type of work that I do now, which changed my life and made me want to go to school to become a chiropractor. That was over 20 years ago, and here I am today, going on six years in the current location that I am in, and having practiced for over 16 years in different areas all over Denver. I practice something called NetworkSpinal, which is a very light touch, no-cracking form of chiropractic. It focuses on eliminating tension from the spinal cord and helping you become more resilient and adaptable to stress and tension.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not always been a smooth road. In fact, after graduating from chiropractic school and moving out here to Colorado from California, I opened my first office and was very humbled by the fact that things didn’t go exactly as I thought they would. I later joined another office and was an associate doctor there for about six years. After my stint there, I purchased Wellness Rhythms, the office I currently own, just days before the stay-at-home ordinance happened in March 2020. Navigating all of that and all of the restrictions and guidelines we had to follow during that time, as well as taking over an office and getting that going, was definitely not what I expected!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We are a chiropractic office in North Wash Park that has been established for over 16 years, and I have owned it for the last six years. We specialize in a technique called NetworkSpinal, which is not your traditional cracking and popping type of chiropractic. It’s very light touch at either end of the spine, where the spinal cord is actually anchoring to the bone, and there’s no cracking or popping involved. We’re actually looking to see that your nervous system is actually becoming smarter and more adaptable to stress and being able to self-regulate and become more optimized with how it deals with life and stress.
We focus on building community and education, and we pride ourselves in giving exceptional care that people value and recognize that it changes their lives and not only their lives but their families’ lives. We recently did a block party, which was a huge success, and we are looking to make it an annual event. We do lots of these types of community events throughout the year to not only celebrate our patients but to bring the community together as a whole.
We would want people to know that we aren’t your average chiropractic office. We’re different, and we’re exceptional in the goals that we see and the level of care that we provide and we expect to achieve with our practice members.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I’d say I’m definitely a risk taker in many regards because if you don’t take risks, you can’t reap any great rewards. I’d say I’ve taken risks in relationships, personal and professional, financial risks, hiring risks, just risk big and small in many different areas. I always like to think that if there isn’t a payout, then there’s definitely something to be learned from each situation.
