Meet Michelle Tucker of The Strong Mama LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Tucker.

Hi Michelle, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started my personal training business after I had my first son in 2014. I realized how little guidance there was for women in exercising after having a baby. So I focused my education and research on that area. I partnered with physical therapists in my area and created perinatal programs that are designed to safely rehab women after childbirth and help them gain strength for the demands of motherhood. 5 years later one of my PT connections suggested I start focusing on women experiencing the transition of menopause. Exercise and nutrition related to perimenopause and post menopause has been my most recent project. I have created programs to help women with this hormonal/physiological change and to set them up for strength and health to keep them fit and active lifelong. A local Recreation Center (in Windsor) has allowed me to teach classes where I lead women through these workouts as well as train members individually. I also created online workout programs for many clients in my training app and meet with clients in my local area. My passion is to train and educate women in how to exercise for their season and work WITH their hormones as they create an active and healthy lifestyle they love.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My journey has not been smooth or easy but it has been exciting. Each challenge has presented opportunity within it. Learning how to juggle motherhood and starting a business was my first challenge. That became more complicated when I welcomed my second son in 2017. However, being a mother and owning a business that mostly served mothers allowed me to experience the challenges of my clients first hand and create even more effective programs for them than suited their schedules and abilities. My husband supporting and guiding me (at times) in all of this really helped as well. In 2020 all of my personal training came to a halt due to the pandemic and spread of COVID. However, during this season I started experimenting with training virtually in video conferences. Since then I have been able to help clients in other states and even countries (like Japan)! It was also during the pandemic that I worked on building up my online services of creating workout programs for clients in a subscription-based model. This has grown a lot and has been one of my favorite products in my business. In 2022 I welcomed my third child, my daughter. Now juggling a busy family life and the business has been even more challenging than before. However, it was around this time I started gaining traction locally as I served women in Windsor at the local RecCenter and started teaching exercise classes for the perinatal and menopausal populations.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about The Strong Mama LLC?
I am a personal trainer who specializes in guiding women in their fitness journey in every season of life. I have experience and in-depth knowledge in how to exercise most effectively in pregnancy, postpartum, perimenopause and post menopause. My knowledge comes from the most current, science-backed evidence of what works for women as far as exercise and nutrition in these seasons. I am most proud of my Mom Core Program (an 8 week workout program that rehabs and strengthens the core and pelvic floor after childbirth) and my StrongHer Classes (exercise classes for women experiencing menopause that guide them in strength-based workouts for their season of life).

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
My hope and goal for my business in the next 5-10 years is to create a product that services women in EVERY season and can reach 100s of 1000s of women to guide them in their fitness journey with the newest research based on women’s bodies and hormones. I would also like to start focusing my research on girls in adolescence in the next 5 years as they are the next people group that is underserved in the fitness industry.
