Meet Moonspit of Denver

Today we’d like to introduce you to Moonspit

Hi Moonspit, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Scott and Kelly have been good friends since 2010. When they became neighbors in 2020, they began jamming occasionally with some other friends in Scott’s basement. After a couple of gigs at a nearby music venue, the members of Moonspit decided to commit more time and effort into creating a high-energy rock band, and searched for some other dedicated musicians with similar goals. In October of 2021, they found what they were looking for in Seth (bass) and Mark (lead guitar). After 6 months of rehearsing, they began gigging around Denver in 2022, and have played all over the city, in the mountains, have an upcoming two-week tour of Colorado in June with other rock bands, and are playing a private event in Dallas in October. In December of 2024, we added Jake, our new drummer, to the band. He has played in numerous bands along the East Coast, and brings a background full of a variety of genres to Moonspit.

In the fall of 2024, Moonspit entered the studio for the first time to record their first EP, “Turn Me Loose”, which is available now on all streaming platforms.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As any band will tell you, everyone has to have an open mind and flexibility when working together toward a common goal, GOOD MUSIC! We are 5 adults with different ideas, goals, work schedules, and beliefs. These differences are our strength.

Another struggle that Moonspit has had includes keeping a consistent drummer that fits in with our philosophy. Numerous drummers have auditioned (the three times we have had an opening), and we just hired Jake, who has been in a variety of bands on the East Coast. The creativity he brings to our band is a game changer, both in the studio and live.

In addition, Mark and Jake are the only two of us who are lifelong musicians. Scott, Seth, and Kelly didn’t begin learning their instruments until they were in their 20’s. A lot of people will tell you that you need to start young if you are going to be successful at music; we are proof that you can begin as an adult and still enjoy this endeavor.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Moonspit is a 5 piece energetic, hard rock band! We are new to the scene, but getting more and more followers after each show!

We are most proud of our EP that was released November 2024. The time, effort, and finances it takes to record 4 songs is difficult to quantify. We spent about 8 months writing, rewriting, rehearsing, and finalizing our songs. Then we narrowed it down to what we felt were our best 4 songs of the 8 (at the time) originals.

What sets us apart from other bands is our unique blend of influences (especially with Jake and the fact we all grew up in different parts of the US and have very different professions) which helps us create our sound. Scott’s lyrics reflect his personal experience, with words that help engage our audience. We believe in the power of live performances to bring people together and create lasting memories, which is why we focus on delivering high-energy and engaging shows that resonate with our fanbase, which grows after every Moonspit show.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Despite having busy personal lives, we remain committed to practicing individually, and rehearsing weekly to create our unique sound. We listen to each other, bring our own perspectives to the band, don’t settle on mediocrity, and develop goals for the band.

Another quality for our success is our dedication to teamwork. Each member brings their unique strengths and creative ideas to the table, and we thrive on open communication. This not only improves our music but also creates a positive atmosphere that translates into our performances.
