Meet Nina Marie of Thornton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nina Marie.

Nina, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I used to write stories when I was younger. Long stories, usually inspired by the likes of R.L. Stine or Christopher Pike about teenagers getting into mischief and murder, but you know how life is. We grow up. We get involved with five hundred other things and we forget about the things we loved doing.
A couple years ago I had participated in a past life regression that blew my mind and then about a year ago, something inside of me told me that I should write it down. The next thing I knew I had a short 150 page manuscript. I thought maybe I was just supposed to write it out for my own healing, but then I was encouraged to share it. When I did, I got great feedback and was then told to publish it.
Being a writer wasn’t something that I had considered doing, it just sort of happened. And here I am, with five published novels!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I wouldn’t necessarily say that the road has been smooth, but I wouldn’t say it was rocky or treacherous either. As a self-published author, I have control over the content of my books, deadlines, publishing- all of it, which makes my job somewhat easier. But there are days where I have writers block, receive rejection letters, have no sales, and question my life choices. In the end I realize that I’m incredibly lucky to be able to write and have my books published and I’m grateful for that. I have no expectations on how well they’ll do or be received. Of course, we always want people to read our books and for people to love them. But again, I think that’s luck. Any bump in the road is a learning experience and I take them with grace. I like to say, “We’ll get where we’re going when we’ll get where we’re going.”

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Colorado Independent Romance Author. I write open door contemporary romance that feels real. I love that my characters are relatable- they could be you, your sister, your neighbor. I love that they deal with real life scenarios. I love that they talk like real people. (I hate when authors use language they themselves would never use, unless their character is in a field where they would talk like an astrophysicist, you know what I mean?)
I am the author of the Rosalynn Series- a past life romance series; Unexpectedly Yours- a best friends to lovers quick read; and She Ran- a romantic suspense where he falls first.
Of all my books, I’m most proud of Unexpectedly Yours. It’s a fan favorite and I’m constantly getting good feedback on it. Personally, I just love the book. It was fun to write, it was inspired by some amazing people, and I just adore the chemistry between Katie and Ryan.

How do you think about luck?
I think luck has definitely played a role when it comes to writing. I think I’m fortunate to have an active imagination where I can easily create stories. The bad part of that might be the long list of story ideas that sit in my notes app, waiting to be written, always bypassed by a new story idea screaming to be written!
I’ve been lucky to sell any books. As an Indie author who’s in charge of everything in my career, marketing definitely feels like the luck of the Gods. I never know if a marketing campaign is going to go the way I hope it goes. Sometimes they do really well and I sell hundreds of books, other times they go terrible and I’m lucky if I sell more than two. Of course there’s a lot more to selling a book but everything is a gamble. You’ll win some and you’ll lose some.
