Meet Olivia Merrill of The Denver Look and Team Denver Homes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Merrill.

Hi Olivia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I began my journey in business around 8 years ago after living in Denver for just 2 years at the young age of 19. I moved here without a college education, the promise of a job, or ANY connections or contacts, literally not one. Through the help of a few different mentors and several learned lessons along the way, I built my business from scratch and I am now a Top Producing Realtor in the Denver Metro area with Team Denver Homes. I also launched a fashion blog, The Denver Look, in 2017 and have successfully been operating it since. The Denver Look is all about inspiring care of self, community, and of other women and I am utilizing the brand to support local Denver businesses in any way I can! I am grateful for my journey and for my experiences thus far and I am very excited at what the future holds.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
”Nobody said it would be easy, but nothing worth having ever is” A quote that seems appropriate here. There have been many challenges and struggles along the way, of course. Whenever you are building a business, you will always hit bumps in the road along the way, some small and solvable and some large and overwhelming. One thing, in particular, that is sort of a lingering struggle for me, especially as of late, is imposter syndrome. For those of you who aren’t sure what this is – imposter syndrome gives one feelings of self-doubt and personal incompetence that persist despite your education, experience, and accomplishments. I have been in this business for almost 8 years now, I am more than qualified with plenty of education and experience! However, this struggle I’m gaming currently has me feeling like this is what has been keeping me from reaching the next level in my business. In a lot of ways, I am sure it has. One thing I have been doing to counteract this feeling is working with a coach and if you’re feeling stuck in business, I highly suggest you invest in yourself and hire one too!

Additionally, I do believe in the positive role real estate plays in creating a sense of community. Because of this, I strive to partner with local businesses in the Denver area in order to create unique events which highlight both the community and its residential Real Estate as I believe Real Estate is sold within the community it resides in.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
One of the things I really enjoy about being in Real Estate is the true need for the human experience. There will always be a need for humans to deal with other humans through a relationship built upon a foundation of trust and knowingness. A lot of people seem to think this industry will be overrun by IBuyers and computer-generated sales. I think differently. I have been on the other side of an IBuyer and I have to say, it was unpleasant, to say the least, and very difficult to come to terms through negotiations. I don’t see longevity in that. Do I think it will disappear? No. I think we will see improvements on that front but I more strongly feel there will always be a need for human touch. As far as the market goes, I am hopeful to see an increase in inventory and a more balanced playing field for Buyers.
