Meet Rachel Hahn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Hahn.

Hi Rachel, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Truly Make Believe began because of a personal struggle of mine. Finding value in myself as a child and teen was impossible. I was diagnosed at a young age with Dysgraphia and Dyslexia. People dont realize its not just a reading “problem” people with learning differences aren’t illiterate, our brains simply function differently. School systems wanted to make me impact them as little as possible and not providing the assistance I needed to succeed. So my mother pulled me out of school and homeschooled me.

As I got older I would meat kids going through the same things I did made me heart sick. I realized if I didn’t do something to help myself, learn and grown. How could I tell them they would be ok, they could do more than the low expectations society had for them.

I was an adult and still afraid to read in front of others, so I thought I’d take a strength and to overcome that fear.
I loved theater and thought If I dressed up as a princess it’d give me that confidence boost I needed.

Originally my plan was to attend library’s but one thing lead to another and my first event was at Children’s Hospital Colorado for their Breakfast with Santa!
That event made it clear that I had ventured into a new world without meaning to. My plan wasn’t meant to last years. But it did and it has changed my life and many other lives in the process.

Today after covid we are reevaluating how to approach new opportunities and new ways to reach families!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been amazing but a lot of challenges for sure.

In a way starting Truly Make Believe was starting upp a small business, there was a lot of personal time money and energy invested into this. Not just by myself but our supporters and volunteers.

Learning how to wear many hat and create a system to help out volunteer work function to the bets of its ability was a lot to take on. But well worth it, we kept our goals in mind along the way.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
This volunteer work is such a passion of mine, I not only love spending my free time working hard to provide such a unique experience for families going through the unthinkable.

I also run my own business with my mother and we provide year round care for working families and support them on their journeys.

Being able to be a support system for families is a very humbling a rewarding thing to do, in my volunteering and in my job.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
We appreciate word of mouth the most, spreading word of what we do and why we’re doing it. We except donations, the donations go towards keeping us on our feet and keeping our costumes, wigs and props in the best shape possible.
