Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Kilmer.

Rachel Kilmer

Rachel , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started at cosmetology school in sterling, co 2021. Then booth rented at 2 nd street salon for a year in julesburg co. From there moved up to Windsor co and was working with great clips for 3 years and part time lash house of Windsor and ten salon and med spa from there I decided I wanted to open my own salon and rent with my fiancé Wesley Romero out of his shop for transcend landscaping am still looking for booth renter and continuing to build clientele. As well as working 2 days a week in a hair salon in the pouder canyon rehabilitation center for the elderly. From here after clients are built and well maintained I’d like to open a bigger salon in Windsor severance or stick to the Greeley area. So far I’ve learned a lot and continue my education for the past going on 5 years. I’m committed to clients and always try my best to leave everyone happy and feeling beautiful.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has definitely not been smooth. It’s been full of ups and downs, hard lessons, and personal growth. One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced has been juggling the demands of working for corporations while also being a mother. I spent years in environments that didn’t offer much flexibility or support, and I often found myself torn between professional responsibilities and wanting to be fully present in my daughter’s life. That internal conflict was exhausting; it really pushed me to reevaluate what I wanted out of my career and my life as a whole.

That’s when the dream of having my own business started to take shape. I didn’t want to feel like I had to choose between my passion for beauty and being a mom. Starting my own salon became a way for me to create balance, not just for myself but also to inspire other women who may be in similar situations. It hasn’t been easy—there have been financial challenges, long nights, and moments of doubt—but it’s been worth it. Building something from the ground up that supports both my professional goals and my role as a mother has been one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a licensed cosmetologist, and I specialize in hair, skincare, and eyelash services. But beyond the services themselves, my mission is to create a space where clients feel comfortable, heard, and celebrated. My salon, Blank Canvas, is designed to be a welcoming, judgment-free zone where people can come not just for a haircut or a facial—but for self-care, transformation, and confidence-building.

Each appointment is personalized. I take the time to really understand my clients’ needs, preferences, and goals. Whether someone is coming in for a fresh color, a relaxing facial, or a bold new lash look, I want them to leave feeling refreshed, uplifted, and empowered.

I also stay current with industry trends, techniques, and product lines to ensure I’m offering the best possible experience and results. I work with high-quality professional product lines, including brands like Amika, Pureology, Bioelements, Moroccanoil, Matrix, and American Crew. Education is very important to me—not only for myself but for my clients as well. I love sharing tips, product knowledge, and helping people better understand how to take care of their beauty needs at home.

physical appearance—it’s about confidence, connection, and care. I want every client who visits Blank Canvas to feel like they’ve had a meaningful experience, not just a beauty service. Whether they’re dealing with a tough day or preparing for a big event, I want them to walk out feeling supported, understood, and absolutely beautiful.

Client satisfaction is at the core of everything I do. I strive to build genuine relationships and create long-term trust. Many of my clients have been with me for years, and I’ve watched them grow, change, and celebrate life’s milestones—and that’s such a gift. I also care deeply about creating a positive and inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome.

Being a cosmetologist is not just a job to me—it’s my passion, my creative outlet, and my way of giving back. Helping people feel good about themselves is what drives me, and that’s what keeps me going every single day.
