Meet Rachel “Roxie” Dugas of North Denver

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel “Roxie” Dugas.

Rachel “Roxie”, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have been passionate about yoga since I moved to Boulder in 2010. I’ve recently continued my yoga teaching journey to learn prenatal and accessible yoga which I’m happy to be able to offer to a new set of students wherever they are today.

I am a former corporate yoga instructor who is rediscovering myself as a private teacher, which is able to enrich my experience as a yogi. My clients are not just clients, they are teachers, friends and my chosen family. I’m very excited to continue to share my love of yoga with North Denver!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I am a survivor of PTSD and a divorced mom of two kids with special needs. It has been a long journey navigating the process of reestablishing myself as a single woman in my forties as well as caring for my kids who each have a specific set of challenges. Embarking on this yoga venture was a risk I decided to take in order to build the life I want for myself and my kids.

Some of the challenges I faced are building a yoga practice from scratch in a community that is constantly changing. Moms like myself are busy so it is a constant struggle to balance scheduling with being present and having time for self-care.

I’m focusing on continuing to dedicate time to therapy and other supports to guide me during this time of challenge.

I am grateful for the practice of yoga to be a continued benefit to me in navigating my new life.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Fitness/Yoga Instructor – specializing in private lessons, Prenatal and Postnatal and Accessible Yoga.
Life Coach
Meditation Coach
Mom

I’m most proud to be able to help soon to be mom’s stay present in their bodies while they navigate pregnancy and beyond.

I’m also thrilled to be working with an adult with developmental disabilities group to do some yoga and dance classes with them on a weekly basis.

I’m welcoming the opportunities for more private clients to develop a yoga routine into their lives to help with whatever they need help with.

I’m also excited to be doing some outdoor yoga classes this summer that are still being worked out. TBD..

But aside from yoga what I’m most proud of is being a mom to my two very beautiful, intelligent and brave children..

How do you think about luck?
In yoga I don’t know if we believe so much in luck rather than creating the conditions for success. I have a big believer however in timing and knowing that timing is everything. When starting a new business or embarking on a new journey or routine I find it most successful to strike while the iron is hot and not hesitate to put plans into action. I’m big into action and making things happen rather than spending lots of time planning because I realize more often than not there is always something unexpected that will change everything at a minute’s notice! Hahaha

I try to keep a good sense of humor about most things.

Yoga is all about acceptance.
