Today we’d like to introduce you to Rian Hidalgo.
Hi Rian, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I started my podcasting journey in middle school with a blog. I did it as a way to get out all my thoughts and give myself pep talks, and it just happened to be on the internet for anyone to read if they came across it.
Eventually, after listening to more podcasts myself, I thought, why not just really make it public and make my own podcast? So, I started one and it was off and on for a really long time. Then, recently, as I have been at university, I have been making episodes consistently, hoping to grow and share more with others.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would not say that it has been a smooth road because there have been ups and downs. I have a lack of motivation often and don’t feel as though there is a need to record because my platform is not very large. However, there have not been any significant obstacles because so much of the process is digitalized and easy to do.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a podcaster with the goal of being a safe space on the internet. I share my thoughts with others to hopefully give advice, or just be a comfortable space. I am most proud of the question that I start every one of my episodes with, “How is your heart?”I think that it is often easy for us to take care of others, ask others how they are, and forget to do the same with ourselves.
We cannot be there for others to the best of our ability unless we are showing up for ourselves, and I want to provide people with the space to do that. I have a unique platform because I am young compared to the majority of podcasters out there. Plus, I did not start my podcast after gaining a large platform, so I am just an average college student sharing my thoughts and hoping to make at least one person’s day better.
What were you like growing up?
I was a pretty quiet but silly kid growing up. I was always better at talking to adults than I was talking to kids my age. I was very creative, making up stories, creating worlds, and utilizing my imagination. I loved and still love to read books that take me into worlds that are entirely made up. I always strive to be a listening ear for my friends, and that was something I have done from a young age.
