Meet Ross Mieir

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ross Mieir.

Hi Ross, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always loved to draw! Remembering back in grade school and Junior high, I would pass in my homework, always adding illustrations and cartoons on the pages, sometimes to the teacher’s dismay, but not always. Never in my life did I dream that someday I would actually make a couple of bucks doing what I love. However, I’ve probably given away more than I’ve sold. I’ve been a carpenter my whole life, and I seldom had the time to realize my passion. After hurricane Katrina, I went to that region to help rebuild. But when I returned to Colorado, I was forced to retire for health reasons, and it could not have worked out any better! I’ve been truly blessed with what the good Lord gave me. So I decided a couple of years ago to try and share what I know to others. And that is how STUDIO 220 originated.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Actually, it’s been a pretty smooth road, to be quite honest! I certainly don’t depend on my art to make ends meet, unfortunately like some very dear friends of mine. I’ve never set my expectations very high. I’ve been told by several artist friends that I sell my work way too cheap. But to me, it’s not all about the money. Just to see someone’s eyes and quietly listen to their comments is more rewarding to me than any amount of money.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’ve been told that my drawings of rock stars that made such a wonderful impact in our lives before they left us are way more better than my oils. But that’s just a matter of a few opinions. Lately, I’ve had the pleasure to do some portraits on consignment from LA to Nashville. When I paint with oil, I try to set the scene more on a fantasy scale, kinda out of my imagination, rather than from a photograph.

What matters most to you?
I’ve got a tattoo on both forearms that sums EVERYTHING UP in my beliefs. On my right, it says in beautiful letters, with a rose in between BE KIND! And on my left, it says ONLY LOVE! To me…that matters
