Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Vetrano.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up in New Jersey and experienced a lot of trauma at a young age. Now looking back, I appreciate the lessons I’ve learned and the gratitude I’ve found for life and purpose in general. I’ve strived as a business owner to become more empathetic, human, and inclusive in the multiple industries I’ve worked within. As a small business owner, I created a yoga space in Boulder that was donation-based and focused on inclusivity. Along with my partner, we co-founded a nonprofit to funnel profits from the endeavor back to our community and specific community projects in India. As a small business owner in the cleaning industry, my aim is to provide our clients with amazing service while at the same time providing fair pay and practical benefits to our cleaning team.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The pandemic has hit us, like many others, very harshly. In the beginning of the pandemic, we lost almost all of our regular clients due to lockdowns. Since then, business correlates with outbreaks and slows when more people are sick. This has even begun to impact our ability to staff jobs. Our team has also been impacted by exposure and illness. Some of the people and companies we work for had to halt business because they too were financially struggling. Every month has been a guessing game since March 2020.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Rocky Mountain Clean & Green?
Rocky Mountain Clean and Green started in 2018 as a way to do something I already enjoyed while making extra money to pay the bills on the side. After we slowly began expanding into the community, I realized I was going to need some help! I started by hiring people I knew to come help me with cleaning jobs. I thought long and hard about what was fair pay and decided I couldn’t imagine doing the job for less than $25 an hour. Our business starts pay at $25, pays out for a minimum of 2 hours per job, even if it takes less time, and compensates our team with extra pay when the location is over 30 minutes away. I can’t imagine running this business any other way. I think people deserve to be compensated fairly for their time and effort. We try to hire mostly women. We allow our team to bring small children to work if they don’t have access to childcare. Rocky Mountain Clean & Green uses mostly natural products made from white vinegar, essential oils, baking soda, and other great natural ingredients when possible. We strive to be an ethical cleaning company that treats our team fairly and causes as little negative environmental impact as possible! We offer personalized deep cleaning for homes and professional spaces! We specialize in pet deep cleanings, move-out cleanings, and organizing.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I’ve learned that what you do, put your whole heart into it. It doesn’t matter if it’s seemingly insanely important or something that seems less impactful, give it your full energy. I’ve also learned that how you treat people defines your character. It’s a constant work in progress.
