Meet Sarah Billera of Castle Rock

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Billera.

Hi Sarah, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I remember when I was 5 years old and I held my baby cousin for the first time – I was absolutely enamored with her. I started begging my parents to have another baby. When I was 8 years old I started helping my grandma at her daycare just so I could be around the tiny little babies and toddlers. By the time I was 10 years old my family nickname was “Mama Sarah.” At the age of 13 my parents were finally able to have another baby and he was “mine.” I always wanted to be a mom. I was gifted my first camera while I was in college and I would take photos every single day. My favorite thing to do was take candid shots of my family and closest friends to capture those special moments – of joy and happiness. For years I wanted to capture photos of newborns and in 2016 I finally started my newborn photography business. I met many tiny little newborns over the course of 2 years until I had my own at the end of 2017. Once I became a mom, so much changed. I always knew raising a baby could be difficult – between lack of sleep, teething difficulties, gas/tummy issues etc etc, but I never knew how much of an impact it would make on me as a mom and how much our lives would change. It’s hard to explain – you truly don’t know until you go through it. In 2022, shortly after the birth of our second baby, my husband and I were led to Colorado. I had to rebuild my business from the ground up. It was extremely difficult in the beginning. I was struggling with Postpartum Depression, juggling 2 young children and trying to market myself as much as I could. I enrolled in a rigorous education course, rebranded my business, made many connections, but it wasn’t until I fully leaned on God that my business started to grow. And now, here we are. I absolutely love being able to hear stories and share experiences with the new families that I meet. I am enamored by every baby I get to hold, comfort and photograph. I am beyond blessed to be able to capture these moments for others.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road. I have faced many personal challenges along the way, but by leaning on God, I have not only gotten through, but I have grown so much.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in newborn, child and family photography and although I am very proud of my creative work I am most proud of being able to serve my clients. Being able to help people is truly what I love most in this world. I am so blessed that I get to be there in some of the freshest and most sacred moments of my newborn clients lives and I am blessed to be trusted and welcomed into my clients homes as they navigate the unknown. It is such a special time and the fact that I get to be there just brings tears to my eyes. I am beyond grateful.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I would not be where I am today without my faith. I am blessed beyond words. My husband is my ultimate supporter. Not only does he cheer me on and encourage me, but he holds down the fort when I am working, he is always there to listen and he keeps me grounded. I have had many mentors over the years who have helped me to build my business. I am continuously learning and perfecting my craft. I also have several “coworkers”/photographer friends who are just so amazing. They hype me up and encourage me and help me whenever I have questions. Love you all so much!
