Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Dolan.
Hi Shannon, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
Health With Shannon was created from my own frustrating experience when it comes to women’s health.
When I went through struggles of menstrual issues, gut health problems, and negative body image, I would search endlessly for answers and often was left with people minimizing my symptoms or telling me these issues are “just part of being a woman.” As things progressively got worse, I started having more conversations with the women around me and quickly realized I wasn’t alone. I dove back into my own education to help heal myself through Nutritional Therapy and started to finally see the results I was hoping for.
I started talking about my experiences on social media and began working with women to help them with menstrual irregularities, and gut issues, and improve their relationship with their bodies through food, movement, fulfillment, and mindset. I essentially became the resource I wish I had when I was in the depths of my healing journey.
From there, Health With Shannon has grown into a business that helps women from all over the world. I have been fortunate enough to win Best Nutritionist in Austin, TX for 2 years in a row, as well as grow and expand my business to help as many people as possible!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I’ve learned there is no such thing as a smooth road in growing a business… which, makes it an exciting adventure! It can be such a humbling experience that presents you with a deeper insight into your own patterns and ways of self-sabotage.
For example, I have had many plans and goals to grow and expand my business at various times but, occasionally it didn’t happen. Looking back, I realized that the biggest obstacle to that growth was my own nervous system and brain thinking it wasn’t safe to grow and expand which resulted in me self-sabotaging any progress. It’s important to keep tabs on your own mental and physical health because any dips in those areas can present an obstacle within your business.
Having a regular presence on social media can also be a challenge. With negative comments, changes in algorithms, and daily shifts and changes, it can be easy to get frustrated. I’ve learned to just show up, as myself, and avoid getting so bogged down by the little things like views, likes, and negative comments.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Health With Shannon specializes in women’s health by teaching women how to live in harmony with their menstrual cycle, support their bodies on a foundational level, and improve their relationship with their bodies.
In addition to women’s health, Health With Shannon also has a separate branch for corporate wellness where we help corporations support their employees by providing tools for nervous system support. Our mission is to help people tap into their innate wisdom, and use their body’s natural processes in order to generate sustainable energy, reduce stress, and boost overall happiness!
Health With Shannon has been acknowledged in a variety of ways through awards, article features, and publications. An exciting recognition was winning Best Nutritionist in Austin, TX for 2 years in a row, as well as working with people and organizations from all over the world!
I think what sets me, the voice behind Health With Shannon, apart from others is my lack of ego, my ability to listen, and my continuous learning. In the space of nutrition, fitness, and wellness there can be professionals that are wrapped up in one way of thinking, which blocks the ability to listen to the person in front of them and what their needs are.
Every person is different in terms of biology, resources, and accessibility, it’s vital to recognize that and be able to find solutions that work for each person in order to create long-term results.
What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned along my journey is my business can only expand as far as my mind thinks it’s safe to do so. While nervous system health has become more mainstream and “trendy” it is a vital piece to results in health, as well as in business.
Whenever I feel a block of inspiration or creativity I take the time to explore what my needs are. Do I need a rest? Do I need to learn something new? Do I need to take a couple of days off? What do I need to help shed a stimulated nervous system so I can bring in more creativity, inspiration, and expansion?
