Meet Shante Schuyler of Sacred Farewell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shante Schuyler.

Hi Shante, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hello, my name is Shante, and my journey into end-of-life work began in 2022 after losing both of my grandfathers. Being present in those sacred final moments with them opened my heart to a deeper understanding of death—not as something to fear, but as a powerful, sacred part of life’s cycle. That experience became the foundation of my path as a death doula and the creation of Sacred Farewell.

Since then, I’ve been walking the path of being a death doula. I’m not here to fix or save anyone—just to hold space with compassion and presence, because I believe death teaches us how to live.

Before these losses, I didn’t know much about death. But instead of running from it, I’ve chosen to run toward it. I’ve engaged in self-study, read extensively about death, dying, and grief, listened to podcasts, volunteered at hospice, and this year I became a certified death doula. (A death doula is a trained professional who supports individuals and families through the dying process, offering emotional, physical, and spiritual guidance during life’s final transition.)

The more I learn about death, the more I learn how to live. I want to help others experience that same awareness. I like to call myself a death advocate because I believe death is life’s greatest teacher. None of us make it out alive, yet we often live as if we will. Here and now is all we have, and tomorrow isn’t promised.

I created Sacred Farewell to offer support, guidance, and education for life’s greatest transition. I also host a monthly Sacred Sip Café, where we have open conversations about life, death, and everything in between—space to reflect, share, and honor the journey together.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Learning about death has been far from easy. It’s a raw, emotional journey that brings moments of deep sorrow, unexpected laughter, pain, and love all at once. Many people still find the topic of death uncomfortable or even taboo, which can make this work both challenging and deeply meaningful.

It’s a part of life that happens to everyone, yet so many of us avoid it, thinking if we ignore it, it’ll go away. But it doesn’t. We live in a death-denying society, and I see my role as helping to bring awareness back. Death is as natural as birth, and yet we often treat it like a failure. Helping people face it with compassion, presence, and understanding is both the challenge and the reward of this path.

As you know, we’re big fans of Sacred Farewell . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Sacred Farewell is my end-of-life doula practice, dedicated to supporting people through life’s greatest transition with compassion, presence, and intention. I specialize in providing guidance, emotional support, and meaningful rituals for those approaching the end of life, as well as for their loved ones.

What sets Sacred Farewell apart is my focus on creating sacred, personalized experiences that honor both life and death. I approach this work not as someone who ‘fixes’ or ‘saves,’ but as a compassionate guide who holds space for reflection, grief, celebration, and connection.

I’m most proud of the safe and intentional spaces I create—whether it’s one-on-one support, grief guidance, or my monthly Sacred Sip Café, where people can gather to talk openly about life, death, and everything in between.

Ultimately, Sacred Farewell is about education, support, and advocacy. I want readers to know that death is not something to fear or avoid—it’s a natural part of life, and with the right guidance, it can teach us how to live more fully. I offer personalized end-of-life support, grief guidance, rituals, and conversations to help people navigate these tender moments with dignity, love, and awareness. I also help create legacy projects—helping people tell their stories and preserve memories for their loved ones.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I was born and raised in Wyoming and currently live in Casper. What I love most about Casper is being close to the mountains—I’m very outdoorsy—and having the river running through town, which makes it easy to enjoy nature every day.

I’ve visited Denver a few times and appreciate the convenience of having everything nearby—shops, restaurants, and cultural events—while still having access to great hiking and outdoor activities. Casper has a quieter pace that I love, but I do sometimes wish there were more of the amenities and cultural options you find in larger cities like Denver.
