Meet Shay Schmitt of West Greeley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shay Schmitt.

Hi Shay, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started dabbling in photography in high school never quite fitting in, it was a nice release to run around town snapping fun odd photos. It sparked joy in something I was good at. After my second baby I found the love of photographing families, I dabbled in weddings, newborn, and so much more. Boudoir became my forte and I thrived in it. I now have my own luxury boudoir studio in Greeley Colorado over a thousand women in my private group and each one that tells me I’ve changed how they look at themselves. Which keeps me going to know that what I’m doing is making a difference.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Bumpy is an understatement. I learned from other photographers, got a certificate in basic photography 101 and then went down the road of crippling criticism until I reached the spot where buying the full gallery (on top of the images they paid for) was a regular thing. I’ve been told I don’t charge enough and my work is phenomenal but that wouldn’t be possible if I didn’t sit in the criticism for awhile learning to be better for my clients.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As a photographer I specialize in Boudoir the real meaning behind it is building self love.
I have been given the nickname “booty photographer” because in their words “if you don’t have a booty she will make it look like you do.”
I’m proud that despite the cut throat business boudoir photography is or I should say, photography in general, I haven’t given up or stopped helping others build their business.

I feel my heart sets me apart from others. I tend to genuinely put my whole being into my work and want to see them shine in their photos.

What’s next?
I have many ideas and future plans but I’ve learned that some things you work in quiet. However, I’m excited to share when I do!
