Meet Shira Souvignier of studio shira

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shira Souvignier.

Hi shira, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
in october 2022, i took the leap and opened my own studio. i had been teaching for only about five years, but i knew that movement was my passion. in those years of teaching, something amazing had happened – a group of clients had grown into a supportive, tight-knit family.

opening studio shira wasn’t just about creating a space to workout. it was about building a space where people of all fitness levels could show up exactly as they are – a space filled with encouragement, laughter and the kind of energy that makes you want to come back again and again.

from day one, our community was the heartbeat of the studio. classes weren’t just strength training, barre, dance, yoga, and aerobics – they were moments to connect, celebrate each other’s wins and lift each other up.

now studio shira is home to incredible instructors who share the same passion for making movement joyful, accessible and safe. we have grown into a place where you can challenge yourself, recharge your spirit and always feel welcomed.

every time i walk into the studio and see the smiles, the friendships and the determination, i am reminded why i took that leap – and why i have poured so much heart and hard work into making this dream a reality. and we are just getting started.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
some struggles along the way:

1. opening in uncertain times – people were still finding their post-pandemic routines. we needed to rebuild confidence and habits around in-person classes

2. wearing all the hats – especially in the beginning, i was teaching, scheduling, marketing, cleaning, repairing, doing payroll, and community building. now we have an amazing team of instructors i couldn’t live without! they share my passion to create the welcoming, uplifting, inclusive space we are known for.

3. financial pressures – learning to balance rent, buying equipment, paying instructors. this all started before we were even charging members.

4. standing out in boulder – creating a unique atmosphere

5. no days off – now all the instructors can run the show seamlessly even when i’m not around

We’ve been impressed with studio shira, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
studio shira is a welcoming, non-judgmental fitness community in boulder, colorado, offering barre, strength, dance, yoga and aerobics classes for all levels. we specialize in creating classes that are challenging yet joyful, with instructors who motivate, support and connect with every client.

what sets us apart is our sense of community – people don’t just come here to workout, they come to feel seen, encouraged, safe, and a part of something bigger. every class is about more than movement; it’s about building confidence, friendships, and a space where everyone belongs.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
community and consistency. we show up for our clients, and they show up for each other. that creates a space people trust – and that’s where the magic happens.
