Today we’d like to introduce you to Sierra Trout.
Hi Sierra, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey began at seven years old, sitting in flute lessons and experiencing, for the first time, the joy of connecting with others through music. Around the same time, my natural curiosity blossomed into a deep love for math and science. As a homeschooled child, I had the freedom to explore these passions through hands-on experiences in nature, thoughtful studies of ancient philosophers, and a daily connection to the rhythms of the earth. Music continued to be a constant thread in my life, and through college, I performed in various ensembles—always leaving rehearsals and concerts feeling more alive, more grounded, and more connected than before.
With a passion for science and a desire to create a better world, I pursued a degree in Environmental Engineering. I spent years designing and improving water systems to ensure communities had reliable, sustainable access to one of our most vital resources. While I found purpose in that work, I also began to feel a quiet but persistent pull toward something more intuitive—something rooted in healing, energy, and human connection.
Alongside my engineering career, I dove into the worlds of fitness, energy work, and sound therapy. I became a certified group fitness instructor and a sound and energy healer, and over time, what started as a personal exploration blossomed into something much greater. I began offering sound baths and energy sessions—first for friends, then for clients—and witnessed the profound shifts people experienced in their bodies, minds, and spirits.
Today, I run a healing business in Denver that blends my scientific foundation with holistic, heart-centered practices. I specialize in sound healing, energy alignment, and chakra-based guidance, and I’ve recently launched a series of free trainings to make these tools more accessible to everyone. My mission is to help people reconnect with their own energy, feel empowered in their lives, and spread more love into the world—because when we feel good, we do good.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. In fact, my journey into healing began in one of the darkest periods of my life.
For most of my life, I carried a deep feeling of not being enough—not smart enough, not pretty enough, not qualified enough. I always felt like I had to work twice as hard just to deserve my place. I wore a mask to fit in, to keep up, to hide the part of me that felt like a burden. But eventually, that mask became too heavy to carry.
About four years ago, I hit rock bottom. I was mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually exhausted. I stopped doing all the things that used to bring me joy—running, mountain biking, yoga. I hid in oversized clothes, ashamed of the weight I had gained and the way I felt in my body. I numbed myself with food, weed, online shopping, and binge-watching TV. I was drowning in debt, yet I kept telling myself, “It’s fine. One day I’ll figure it out—after my big spiritual awakening.”
But that big, magical moment never came.
What came instead was something smaller and quieter. I listened to a podcast—Aubrey Marcus interviewing Dr. Kulreet Chaudhary—and something in her story cracked me open. It wasn’t an epiphany or a dramatic realization. It was a whisper inside me saying, “Try again.”
The very next day, I ordered crystal singing bowls. I didn’t have a plan. I just knew I needed them. A month later, I found myself leading my first sound bath at the local rec center. That one small step led to another, and little by little, I started coming back to life.
I returned to my mat. I laced up my running shoes. I reconnected with my body—not as something to criticize or fix, but as something to care for and love. I started creating again. Letting music flow through me in a way I hadn’t felt in years.
Now, I’m finally living the life I was meant to live. I moved to Denver in 2023, found a corporate job that aligned with my values, and continued teaching fitness classes and hosting sound baths. But more than that—I began creating something of my own. A healing space where others can reconnect with themselves the way I did.
If you’re in a season where things feel heavy… if you’ve forgotten who you are… please know: you’re not broken. You’re becoming. You can come back to yourself.
I did. And I’m here to walk with you if you’re ready.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At the core of my work is the understanding that so much of our lives—our thoughts, emotions, and reactions—are shaped by subconscious programming we’re not even aware of. From a young age, we’re taught how to behave, what to believe, how to be accepted, and what success looks like. Over time, these beliefs become part of an internal operating system, quietly running the show. We think we’re making conscious choices, but often we’re just responding from a domesticated script—one that doesn’t actually reflect who we truly are.
This is where sound healing becomes such a powerful tool. Sound bypasses the analytical mind and speaks directly to the subconscious. When you’re immersed in the vibrations of crystal singing bowls, your brainwaves shift into deeper, more receptive states—like theta and delta—which are the same states accessed during deep meditation or hypnosis. In that space, you’re able to connect with the unconscious parts of yourself that hold old patterns, outdated beliefs, and unresolved emotions.
Through intentional sound healing, you create the conditions for deep energetic clearing and reprogramming. It’s not about “fixing” yourself—it’s about remembering who you were before the world told you who to be. It’s about allowing your nervous system to soften, your body to feel safe again, and your inner voice to grow louder than the external noise.
What sets my approach apart is that I bring both science and soul into every session. With a background in environmental engineering, I understand systems, structure, and flow—from water networks to energy channels. I combine this with intuitive healing, sound therapy, and movement to help people reconnect with their bodies and rewire their beliefs at the root level.
I specialize in sound baths, chakra alignment, and energy healing sessions that support emotional release, clarity, nervous system regulation, and inner peace. I’m most proud of the moments when clients say things like, “I didn’t even know I was carrying that,” or “I feel like I just came back home to myself.” That’s the work. That’s the magic.
My mission is to help people live more consciously—no longer ruled by old programming, but guided by their own truth.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
When I think about the role of luck in my life and work, I feel nothing but deep gratitude. So many of the opportunities and defining moments along my path have come from unexpected generosity, chance connections, and what I can only describe as divine alignment.
One of the earliest and most impactful examples happened when I was in middle school. I was homeschooled, and I had reached a level in math where my parents could no longer help me. They began searching for a tutor, unsure of where to turn. One day, my dad casually mentioned this challenge to one of his patients—and without hesitation, the man replied, “I’ll tutor her—for free.”
His name was Don Lundergan. He was in his late 80s at the time, with a Ph.D. in Physics and a remarkable career at Sandia Labs in Los Alamos, where he helped design top-secret projects for the U.S. And yet, this brilliant and deeply humble man chose to take me under his wing.
Week after week, Don guided me through complex math and physics concepts with patience, passion, and curiosity. My understanding of those subjects grew far beyond what I ever expected. But more than anything, Don loved talking about quantum physics. His eyes would light up as he shared ideas about energy, vibration, and the nature of reality. I didn’t fully realize it at the time, but those conversations planted the seeds for the energetic work I now do. They shaped how I see the world and how I help others heal through frequency and vibration.
That wasn’t the last time unexpected support and timing helped guide my path.
I graduated college in 2020—right in the heart of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was one of the most uncertain times in modern history, and I was doing everything I could to find a job. I was emailing, applying, reaching out to everyone I could. I was willing to start anywhere. And eventually, a small engineering firm based on the Western Slope and in my hometown of Durango, CO, took a chance on me. They hired me part-time until they could see what was going to happen in the industry. I was beyond grateful. As a brand-new graduate, being able to step into a job just a few weeks after graduation in June 2020 felt like a true gift.
When I later moved to Denver, I knew I wanted to find a company that aligned with my values—something rooted in service, with the heart of a nonprofit but operating as a for-profit business. I also wanted to specialize in water. Water has always called to me—its movement, its memory, its vital role in every life on Earth. And in what felt like a moment of alignment and affirmation, I found exactly what I was looking for.
Today, I work as an environmental engineer at Hazen and Sawyer, a company whose tagline is “All Things Water”—and it couldn’t be more true. We help communities across the country ensure that their water systems are safe, sustainable, and resilient. From clean drinking water to wastewater treatment and everything in between, Hazen’s work truly supports the health of people and the planet. I feel proud to be part of that mission.
Whether it’s been the generosity of a brilliant tutor, the timing of a job opportunity during a global crisis, or the alignment of values in my current role, I’ve seen again and again how luck, when met with openness and readiness, can change everything.
