Meet Skylar Hagen of Hagen & Associates PLLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Skylar Hagen.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I actually started my career in the Air Force as a Judge Advocate. That time taught me how to think on my feet, solve tough problems, and stand up for people in high-pressure situations. After leaving the military, I knew I wanted to keep using those skills, but in a way that allowed me to build something of my own.

That’s how Hagen & Associates came to life. I started the firm here in Colorado with the idea that the law should feel accessible, not intimidating. Most of my work is in personal injury, employment, and estate planning, which means I meet people at some of the hardest points in their lives. My job is to fight for them, but also to make sure they feel heard and understood along the way.

Starting a business while also being a mom and a veteran definitely had its challenges. But those experiences shaped me and helped me connect with my clients on a real level. A lot of them feel like the odds are stacked against them, and I can honestly say, “I get it.”

Today, I’m proud that Hagen & Associates reflects my values—integrity, resilience, and community. At the end of the day, winning a case matters, but giving people back their confidence and dignity is just as important to me.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. As a Nigerian-American woman, a mom, and a veteran stepping into a profession that is still very much dominated by men, I’ve faced my share of challenges. There were moments when I felt underestimated or like I had to prove myself twice over just to be seen as credible.

On top of that, balancing the demands of raising a family while building a law firm from scratch was no small feat. There were long nights, missed family moments, and plenty of times when the weight of it all felt overwhelming. But those struggles also fueled my determination. They taught me resilience, patience, and how to carve out space in rooms where I wasn’t always expected to belong.

Looking back, those obstacles shaped the lawyer and business owner I am today. They gave me a deeper connection to my clients, especially those who feel unheard or overlooked, because I know what it’s like to push through barriers and keep moving forward.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I built my law firm to stand firmly on the side of people, not corporations or insurance companies. We focus on plaintiff’s work, which means we represent individuals in personal injury, employment and labor disputes, and civil rights cases. Whether someone has been hurt in an accident, treated unfairly at work, or had their rights violated, our job is to fight for them and make sure their story is heard.

In addition to litigation, we also help families with estate planning. I believe that protecting your legacy is just as important as protecting your present, so we offer services like wills, trusts, and beneficiary deeds. These tools give people peace of mind and ensure their loved ones are taken care of in the future.

What sets us apart is the way we approach our clients. I want people to feel comfortable walking into our office — no legal jargon, no intimidation, just real conversations and a strategy built around their needs. As a Nigerian-American woman and veteran, I know what it’s like to feel underestimated, and I’ve made it my mission to create a law firm where every client feels respected and valued.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud that Hagen & Associates reflects integrity, resilience, and community. Our readers should know that when they come to us, they’re not just getting legal representation , they’re gaining an advocate who will fight tirelessly for their rights and their dignity.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love most about Denver is the sense of community and resilience you feel here. It’s a city that blends opportunity with a strong local spirit, people look out for each other, support small businesses, and value diversity. I also love how Denver gives you the best of both worlds: a growing, vibrant city with culture and opportunity, and the natural beauty of the mountains right at your doorstep.

What I like least is the growing cost of living and how quickly the city is changing. While growth brings opportunities, it can also make it harder for working families to keep up, and too many people are being priced out of neighborhoods they’ve called home for generations. I’d like to see Denver grow in a way that’s more inclusive, where everyone has the chance to thrive.
