Today we’d like to introduce you to Sophia Schooley Alvarado.
Hi Sophia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in a very creative and musical environment. my mom was always involved in theatre, and my dad plays guitar, so I’ve been doing theatre and dance for as long as I can remember. Visiting Disneyland was a big part of my childhood too, since much of my family is from California and my uncle worked there. One of my favorite memories was always meeting the princesses, especially Belle. I even refused to leave the park until I got to meet her!
That love for theatre and princesses naturally led me to join a local party princess company right after high school, and I’ve been ‘princessing’ ever since. While working there, I met my best friend and now co-owner of Fairytale Fable, Rowan Van De Mark (The Elsa to my Anna!). We were often paired together for long events and during quiet moments between guests, we’d brainstorm ideas for bigger, more elaborate events. Those conversations eventually inspired us to start our own company so we could create larger-scale events like our princess balls, in addition to birthday parties.
We’ll be celebrating our two-year anniversary this April, and we feel so blessed to be busy and booked with amazing events that let us share joy and creativity with families all over Colorado Springs.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been completely smooth, but every business has its challenges. One of the things we’ve learned is that in this industry, collaboration can sometimes be tricky because not everyone is used to working together. We’ve faced situations where competition and differing approaches made things a little more complicated, but we’ve always stayed focused on our own vision and mission.
The important thing for us has been to stay true to our values, maintain positive relationships wherever we can, and keep building a company that celebrates creativity and community. Those experiences have actually helped us grow stronger and more intentional about the kind of team and culture we want at Fairytale Fable.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Fairytale Fable Events?
Fairytale Fable is a professional character and event entertainment company based in Colorado Springs. We specialize in bringing beloved characters to life for a wide variety of events, including birthday parties, corporate events, community celebrations, and large-scale themed experiences like our princess balls. We also offer tribute shows and performances inspired by popular musicals, movies, and pop culture, which are designed for both kids and adult audiences.
What sets us apart is our emphasis on professional, high-quality performance. All of our performers are trained singers, dancers, and actors, which allows us to create immersive, magical experiences that go beyond a standard character visit. We focus not just on meeting the characters, but on telling a story, creating a memorable event, and making every guest feel special. Brand-wise, we’re most proud of building a company that feels fun, imaginative, and inclusive while maintaining professionalism and consistency. We want readers to know that our offerings are versatile, from intimate birthday parties to larger community or theatrical events—and that every experience is designed to delight and engage audiences of all ages. We’d also love for readers to know that Fairytale Fable has been nominated for Best of the Springs for Best Place for a Birthday! It would mean the world to us if they took a moment to vote, we’re so grateful for the support of our community.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is not to be afraid to ask for help. Building a business is a team effort, and having people around you who truly believe in your mission makes all the difference. Through theatre and this business, I’ve met most of my lifelong friends, which has shown me how valuable a supportive community is. Surrounding yourself with like-minded individuals allows you to grow, stay motivated, and bring your vision to life in ways you couldn’t do alone. It’s not just about what you can do by yourself, it’s about the people who share your passion and help make it a reality.
