Meet Star Canna of Denver

Today we’d like to introduce you to Star Canna.

Hi Star, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Growing up strict Catholic on a farm in a small town in Michigan tarot and the metaphysical world were strongly frowned upon. It wouldn’t be until years after that I discovered my intuition and gifts which are still evolving.

For years I have been an advocate for the cannabis plant. My advocacy started by producing variety shows with cannabis theme acts and cannabis culture vendors. It progress to streaming on Twitch with several cannabis advocacy talk shows including guests from all over the Country. I have also worked with the plant in all capacity and have represented several brands. But this still left me longing for more.

Fast forward to the year I turned 39. I never thought I’d be one of those people freaking out about their age, but I did. Fifteen days after I turned 39 I took the initiative to reach out to a designer to help me create an idea I had in my head for over 2 years. A cannabis POSITIVE Rider-Waite Tarot Deck. It would be the first of its kind. Before you go accusing me and telling me there are other cannabis decks. Yes, I know. My deck specifically shines a positive light on a subject often made to be a stigma.

The journey of how Tarojuana came to be… I found my designer on Fiverr. Unfortunately, he was not local. Although he did check all the other boxes. Reasonable price range. Fast turnaround. When I started Tarojuana, I thought this would be a fun casual project. Let’s just start out with a few cards. Quickly my passionate and enthusiasm for this project grew and grew. Within three months I had decided to initiate a Kickstarter. It was successful, but I underestimated how much the project would cost. Close friends realized the potential for this product. They loaned me enough money to get over 400 decks printed, including guidebook and pouches. The excitement doesn’t stop there through my talk shows another entrepreneur from Tennessee reached out to me and invited me to MJ Bizcon. I thought how am I gonna make this work. So I did some serious thinking. This would be an awesome opportunity to share my deck. It was just about finished all 78 cards, 42 page guide book, and pouch design. Through the grace of Source I found a printer in Colorado Springs . The decks were printed the day before my flight left for Las Vegas.

This past August, I turned 40. It’s been a year since Tarojuana has been in existence. I can probably say that we’re in several Colorado dispensaries and even a few stores in Missouri. I’m looking forward to continual visibility and growth.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Cost, visibility, & stigma.
Every YouTube video and blog will tell you how expensive it is to create a deck. I think that was an understatement. For it to make sense and be profitable. You really need to order over 1000 decks to compete with any of these China counterfeit knock off decks. I could only order 400 making my wholesale more than folks want to pay for what they don’t understand is that it’s a locally made product one of a kind and high-quality. I’ve also find I’m having a hard time getting it into metaphysical stores. My main clients are dispensaries.
visibility is also extremely tough for me social media the Internet basically anyone doesn’t want to see cannabis advertised or shine upon in a great light

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Trusting my intuition and gifts is still relatively new for me. Although I have always been told, I light up a room and have a special energy that is healing. I think I’m most proud of developing my intuition and spiritual gifts. I’ve been reading tarot for over five years. It brings me such joy to connect with people on this level. I love doing private events and special gatherings, but video readings, and connecting with someone one on one in a private space is special as well.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Being a pioneer is really about trusting your intuition and doing what makes you feel right. Kindness and patience has been the foundation and the most important lesson that I’ll take with me.
