Meet Stephanie Baudhuin of Crummies

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Baudhuin.

Stephanie Baudhuin

Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Crummies started back in 2017 when I went plant-based. My husband Nick and I struggled to find a meat alternative that was veggie focused, oddly enough. We came up with the recipe together for our meatless crumble, and I had my first sale at the Greeley Farmers Market in 2019.

Before becoming a Vegan Food Entrepreneur, I had a long career in Graphic Design and Printing. There was a bit of a learning curve, to say the least. Luckily, in my corner were many supportive individuals, including my Family and Friends. One friend in particular was Sandy Beardsley, a long-time professional caterer and owner of Cowgirl Catering.

She was my mentor and continues to be a fabulous source of confidence and guidance. I have also been able to grow the business and a network of amazing small businesses around Colorado. This has been such a wonderful new chapter in my life, and the journey just keeps getting better.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been the smoothest of roads despite my unyielding support circle.

After the career change into an entirely new venture came the pandemic, essentially shutting down many of the avenues I was used to pursuing for sales. I had to adjust my approach and customer reach, which was a terrific business move. Offering delivery and shipping has broadened Crummies’ exposure to new areas, and I no longer feel regionally bound.

Struggles are, and have always been, learning opportunities in my professional and personal life. My brother said to me once, “no great entrepreneur story begins with… everything just turned out, every time with everything.” This has always stuck with me, and I’m happy that the story has many twists and turns.

As you know, we’re big fans of Crummies. What can you tell our readers who might not be as familiar with the brand?
Crummies is a Vegan and gluten-free food brand located in Northern Colorado. We specialize in using ingredients from the land, not the lab.

Our meatless crumble’s base is seven simple ingredients and comes in 3 varieties. We are also proud of our tamales, which are made by hand and are as traditional as possible, leaving out animal products. Crummies are here for the Vegans and Vegetarians and the “Reductiarians” who find plant-based eating somewhat intimidating or out of reach. I also like to refer to this as “Veggie Curious.”

You can find us at grocery stores, online, or even at local Farmer’s Markets and special events. Follow us on Facebook or Instagram for up-to-date schedules and availability.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Five to ten years, just brimming with the potential of this business, is incredible.

I see nothing but growth for Vegan and Vegetarian options. I have seen so many wonderful brands coming up in the area and around the globe that are making delicious and exciting products every day.

I love having conversations with folks about plant-based eating and how it fits into their lifestyle or way of thinking. I invite the hard questions and know that Veganism isn’t for everyone, nor should I presume to be the one to tell them how to live or their diet. All I ask in those conversations is to have an open mind and reduce animal products’ impact on our daily lives.

In that light, I have been approached with more and more positive interactions and I believe it is a noticeable shift in people’s lives. Maybe it’s one meatless meal a day or even a week. It all impacts a positive change.
