Meet Taylor King

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor King. 

Hi Taylor, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I got started in the beauty industry through pageantry. When I was younger, I was always amazed by how makeup and hair could not only enhance your beauty but make you feel powerful. That’s what I loved about pageantry and it turned into my passion for beauty. After high school, I went to Cosmetology school at the Paul Mitchell School in Cleveland, Ohio where I’m from. After I graduated, I worked in a few salons through the years while working with a traveling team called Team Puresk. I still travel with them and do pageants across the country, it’s something I love doing with people I’ve known for almost 10 years. I’m licensed in 3 states as a professional cosmetologist and have worked in all facets of the industry. Tv/film, pageantry, photography, and salons. When I moved to Colorado, my goal was to finally start my own business and I haven’t turned back. 

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It defiantly hasn’t been a smooth road to success. I remember my first boss in a salon when I got out of school told me I’d never make it in this industry. She told me I lacked ambition and the skill set. But I knew what I wanted, and stayed focused. Here I am 4 years later, living my dream of making people feel beautiful. So, I guess this is my, comeback moment or revenge moment of proving her wrong. 

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a licensed professional in cosmetology by trade, but I freelance and do hair and makeup for brides/prom/pageants and photography. I specialize in updos/brides and pageantry hair and makeup. I am known for my ability to make it happen and work my magic to create the dream style or makeup happen. What sets me apart from others is my ability to create the vision of my clients. All I am doing is enhancing the beauty that is already there. I am proud of the traveling I have been able to do with pageantry and to be a part of something bigger. It has allowed me to sharpen my skills and meet so many people. 

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love that there is so many things to do. You are never bored in Denver! The least favorite thing is the traffic.
