Meet Thomas Archuleta of Aurora

Today we’d like to introduce you to Thomas Archuleta.

Hi Thomas, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Capturing Moments, Telling Stories….

For over a decade, photography and videography have been more than just hobbies—they’ve been my passion and way of seeing the world. Each shot is an opportunity to preserve a fleeting moment and transform it into a story worth sharing. I thrive on continuously learning new skills and techniques, eager to discover what the next chapter will bring.

My journey began in 2010 as a school photographer, capturing ID cards and yearbook photos for students across Colorado, Nebraska, and Wyoming. As I gained experience, I moved into candid sports and wedding photography, immortalizing joyful celebrations and raw emotion. I also developed a specialty in portraiture, creating prom and senior pictures that highlighted individual personalities.

In 2014, my career pivoted to software engineering, shifting my focus away from photography for a time. However, my love for capturing moments never faded; it remained a cherished hobby in the background.

As of November 1, 2023, I have fully reimmersed myself in what I love—bringing a fresh perspective and honed skills to my business, Pitfal Solutions. Whether it’s personal portraits, event coverage, or advertising requirements, I provide professional photography and videography solutions tailored to your needs. We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting a business for the first time certainly has its share of challenges. I remember at the beginning staring at my computer and thinking “Ok… I want to start a photography business. What now?”.

So the first and probably biggest challenge before taking the proverbial plunge was where do I even stand to jump off from? Therefore, I approached it like most everything else in my life: through research and establishing a checklist with bite size tasks.

As I’ve progressed that checklist has evolved and changed over time as new challenges present themselves, but as long as I stick to researching those challenges and turning them into actionable smaller tasks I’ve been able to work through them.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in capturing moments / telling a story which is currently accomplished using photography and videography. I work with individuals to hear what special moment is coming up for them and then together we come up with a plan for how best to immortalize it. I honestly love this part as it’s great for getting to know people I work with at the beginning and it helps to naturally establish expectations and get everyone aligned.

I’d have to say I’m most known for my strong work ethic and speed to deliver based on feedback from others. I make it a point to deliver something within the first 24 hours with most projects being completed within 2 weeks. I’m most proud when I naturally come across my work being displayed somewhere. A social media post, a newsletter or even seeing a photo hanging in the home of one of my clients fills me with pride knowing a moment I captured was meaningful and useful to them in their life.

What sets me apart? I’d have to say that’s something I’m still working through being a new business owner. I can tell you my mission is to go above and beyond in anything I undertake. There’s a great review from one of my clients where a huge snow storm landed the day of their event and without hesitation I jumped in and started helping them with the shoveling, setting up, and doing whatever I could to make sure their event wasn’t negatively impacted. I’m hired to capture moments but I also do whatever I can to see to the success of these once in a lifetime events.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Most people don’t know why the brand Pitfal Solutions is spelled wrong (one “L” instead of two). This goes way back to the days of AOL in the 90’s when there was a character limit for your screen name and the real spelling was one character too many. Therefore, I was forced to cut one of the “L’s” off as a means of compromising and keeping the word I was so fond of. Life is filled with pitfalls to overcome (or “swing” over as per out slogan) and so I’ve stuck with using the word whenever I can with the one “L” naturally following along.
