Today we’d like to introduce you to Thomas Woodard.
Hi Thomas, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The Yum Bus started in May of 2021 as a little yellow bus serving sandwiches to local folks visitors to Bailey. The regular stop is just off Hwy 285 and CR 43 at the top of Crow Hill. We started as way to share the Yum in our community from the Bus and have expanded to also include a second kitchen in a converted step van.
This summer you may find us in Bailey, Conifer, and at events across the metro and mountain area.
We serve creative, hand-crafted sandwiches and more with a menu that changes weekly.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We have had some hiccups that are common with food trucks–like mechanical problems and generator breakdowns–and some others that are typical of any new restaurant. I like to think we’ve minimized most of the major problems by keeping things simple and being very flexible. Our regular “riders” and the local community have continued to support us even when we have faced supply shortages and unforeseen interruptions to service.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We are food bus specializing in creative hand-crafted sandwiches and more. Some of our more popular sandwiches include Tom’s Turkey Melt, Papa’s Cheeseburger, and Matty’s GY-ro. We have a menu that changes weekly, so you can almost always try something new or something our riders requested.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
I always enjoy Anthony Bourdain and the Mind of a Chef series.
