Meet Valerie Baeza

Today we’d like to introduce you to Valerie Baeza. 

Valerie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve been writing fiction for myself until the idea for Story of My Life was sparked, and I knew from the start that this one would be my first publication. For two years, I wrote and rewrote this novel, but I knew there was something missing. That there was something that I wasn’t aware of, so I hired a developmental editor, Kyra Nelson, and everything exploded! She gave me the tools to dig deeper and offered resources to get me and my novel where it needed to be, and I never regretted it. 

The next big threshold was my book cover and typesetter, Domini Dragoone. She not only brought my ideas to life with each letter that the characters wrote being in their own penmanship, she designed a killer cover that depicts the novel brilliantly! 

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The road toward publication has not easy, mainly because I had to learn about publishing and marketing for myself in order to do this novel justice. There are so many levels of professional editing that I was unaware of and sometimes those edits conflicted which causes delays and increased expenses, but I’ve learned many lessons because of these challenges. 

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I represent a few aspects of writing. Locally, I am known for my advocacy for New Mexico Film as I was a feature writer for NMFilmNews.com, and I posted a lot of my poetry on social media while working on Story of My Life: a novel. My genre also sets me apart. I wrote upmarket fiction, a delicate blend of literary fiction and commercial fiction, and the love stories are a dedication to the human condition about characters from multiple backgrounds. I strive to love stories for every gender, sexuality, ethnicity, and adult age.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Story of My Life is a love story about a broken Englishman in his forties, looking for a reason to live without the love of his life. The takes place predominately in England, but there’s loads of world destinations like Brazil, Australia, and Spain, to name a few. All of the characters vary in gender, age and ethnicity, but they are all searching for the universal language we identify as love. This page-turner is based upon realistic life events, sweet and intense moments, with a twist you won’t see coming.
