Meet Veronica Mata

Today we’d like to introduce you to Veronica Mata.

Veronica Mata

Hi Veronica, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
While vacationing in Europe in 2014 as a family, we tried our first live escape game and were instantly hooked on this new and exciting form of entertainment. Upon returning home to Colorado, and hoping to try more, we found no existing live escape games, so we opened The Clue Room as Colorado’s first live escape game, in September of that same year.

150,000+ happy customers later, the Clue Room boasts a total of ten live escape games, three digital escape games, and four mobile escape games. All our games are original and designed in-house, creating a unique and fun experience you won’t find anywhere else!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road, while not always smooth, has been fun. We’ve learned a lot in the last 10 years. From figuring out how to introduce a new type of business and form of entertainment to getting through COVID, we always learn new ways to pivot.

For example, after COVID, we saw how many customers and local businesses felt especially disconnected. So we’ve been working with the City of Centennial and fellow small business owners since 2020 to increase customer engagement and a sense of community through different immersive experiences and events.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We specialize in designing immersive experiences. Within our location, we have 10 unique Live Escape Games. Additionally, our Mobile Escape Games are designed to be played in any off-site location. With our Digital Escape Games, our customers can play from anywhere in the world! All our games are designed in-house which sets us apart from our competition. And after 10 years, we are proud to still be family-owned and operated.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
We are highly involved in our community. We work with local governments, schools, non-profit organizations, and fellow small business owners for various engagement and outreach events. We’ve facilitated community events like scavenger hunts and business passports. We have participated in educational talks for schools and chalk art festivals for the city. We love how it gives us the opportunity to engage with the community in different ways.
