Meet Whitney Ayer of The Forum Group, COMPASS

Today we’d like to introduce you to Whitney Ayer.

Hi Whitney, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Originally from Southern California, I started my career in Commercial Real Estate, coordinating due diligence for the purchase of large industrial assets, developing my expertise in project management. I moved to Steamboat Springs in my mid twenties to spend a season enjoying the mountain town snowboarding and hiking and truly fell in love with Colorado and all that is has to offer. I relocated to Denver in 2018 and have felt at home in this one-of-a-kind City, ever since. I obtained my real estate license in 2020, and left the corporate world to pursue becoming an independent contractor, as a Realtor, to help people buy and sell homes.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Jumping ship from a corporate, salaried job with stability and consistency straight to a self-employed, commission only income was anything but easy!

I waited tables part time my first year to pay the bills, and put in countless hours at the real estate office and open houses attempting to to meet leads. It’s almost impossible for people to take you seriously when they think you’re just a waitress and real estate as a hobby or side gig. Buyers and Sellers want to know someone is committed and has the experience to support them is such life changing, and expensive decisions.

Nonetheless, I stayed committed, to build rapport with my friends and family as I grew my expertise in home buying and selling. Having been a transplant into Denver, I not only had to create a business from scratch, including my marketing, accounting, administrative processes, etc., but an entire book of business as well.

The best advice I ever received from tenured realtors was, “if you can make it past the first two years without giving up (the window of time when most realtors who just get their license, end up quitting) then you will likely survive in this industry”. That being said, I worked long nights and committed all my time to pursuing this role, proving that this was a passion I was not going to give up, regardless of the slow grind, and countless rejections for being “new”. By year 3 I had enough business under my belt to build my referral network, and it made the entire start the the process worth the wait and the patience.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a licensed Realtor with The Forum Group, is a real estate team with Compass, Colorado, one of the largest U.S. residential real estate brokerage. I help people buy and sell homes in Denver Metro. My clients would say I treat them more like family or friends, than just ‘clients’, and that it makes their buying and selling experience much more personalized, genuine, and trustworthy.

I pride myself on having reliable and thorough communication with my clients, while being tenacious, and kind, with a positive but honest approach. I’m most proud of the feedback I’ve gotten from my client’s of how impressed they were by the level of care, support, and pristine customer service they received in their buying and selling experience.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
For me, happiness isn’t found in just one thing — it’s found in balance. It’s the harmony between meaningful work and personal joy that truly lights me up.

I feel most fulfilled when I’m making a positive impact through my career, helping others improve their lives in meaningful ways in real estate. But just as important is the time I spend away from work — fully present with family, soaking in everything Colorado has to offer. Whether it’s snowboarding in the winter, paddleboarding in the summer, or heading off on spontaneous camping trips, the outdoors constantly refuels me.

Balance also means taking care of myself — mentally, physically, and emotionally. Yoga, running, meditation, and daily reflection help keep me grounded. I love creating a cozy home space that feels like a sanctuary and surrounding myself with people who are kind, inspiring, and genuine.

To me, happiness is a life rich in purpose, play, peace, and connection — and I’m grateful every day to be building that kind of life.
