Today we’d like to introduce you to Young A.V.K.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
First off let me introduce myself, my name is Young A.V.K, I’m 20 and I’m a musician originally from Vermont. Before I even started rapping I’ve always loved rap and music in general. I started rapping on social media outlets such as Instagram when I was 14 in the summer of 2016. I started rapping just as a way to voice my thoughts and portray how I felt through my lyrics. I started gaining a little bit of traction throughout my school, people started noticing little by little like “oh shoot this dude can kinda rap”. It wasn’t until I was 15 when I got my first recording equipment. I remember it was just a $25 microphone, a $40 interface and my old cheap laptop I had with Cubase attached. I released my first track which was a remix of Drakes song “KMT” which I released on Soundcloud. It didn’t get much traction of course but this was the start of my career. Over the next year and a half, I released 14 tracks and an Ep titled “999” which had eight tracks on it. I was gaining more and more attention around my school but I still had to keep going.
In the summer of 2018 I released my track “Wet” which instantly started getting played in my school and outside as well. I recorded my first music video that summer for “Wet”. The song now sits at over 5,000 plays on all streaming platforms and almost 3,000 views on the music video, all organic. Right after releasing “Wet”, I met AKtheKing, my now long time friend and business partner. We made our first track together titled “I Know”, which now sits at over 15,000 plays on all streaming platforms. Late 2018 he started our record label “ATK Records” and I was the first artist signed. On December 21st of 2018, I released my first Album titled “Undertaker” which had 12 tracks. I made the entire album in my room, recording on this new mic I got at the time, that I still use to this day. Searching up YouTube tutorials trying to learn how to mix my tracks to make them sound good. In the first week the album had about 2,000 streams and I gained a good amount of attention in Vermont. Some of the biggest tracks on that album are of course “Wet”, “King”, “Figure It Out Ft. Brianna Peck” and “Ballin Ft. K-DOLO”. All gaining thousands of streams and growing popular throughout Vermont. I started gaining more followers on social media and people started to know who “Young A.V.K” was locally. Following that release, over the next 2 years, I released another Ep titled “Gas n Guap” which did pretty good and also released a few singles such as “Iller Than Ever”, “King Remix” and “Chop Freestyle”, all gaining good amounts of plays and listeners from across the world.
In the summer of 2020 I moved out here to Aurora, Colorado with my family to start a “new journey”. Since being here I’ve been really perfecting my craft, trying to get better at every aspect of this art form. I’ve released five singles since being here, 1 of them being “Music N Marijuana” has gained over 16,000 plays on all streaming platforms, my highest streaming song to date. I was featured in a cypher created by our team “ATK Records” that now has over 13,000 views on Youtube. I have now released my latest single “Mad Max” in preparation for my upcoming Album “Losses To Blessings”, releasing July 15th. “Mad Max” currently has around 1,300 plays on all streaming platforms and is still growing daily. This whole journey has led up to this point. I still have a lot of work to do but, I’ve come a long way from where I started.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Well to be honest, I’ve always struggled with how I sounded. Just recently I’ve been getting to the point where I really like how I sound when I make music. Until recently I’ve always felt like when I was rapping it wasn’t 100% “me”. I think this really held me back in terms of sharing my music more and releasing more content. But over the years, experimenting with different sounds has really helped me to find my true voice in this music industry.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Well first off I’m a rapper/artist. I write my own lyrics, make beats and all around, I’m a creative. My biggest accomplishments so far is gaining over 50,000 plays across all my music on all streaming platforms. Working with other creatives across the world and also meeting so many fans along the way. I think what sets me apart from others is that I come from a small state where not a lot of musicians are making it out and the opportunity for artists is not that high. I feel like I’m putting on for people who don’t have a lot from where they come from, the people who are really putting in the work to try to make it.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Most people don’t know that I’ve been really doing this since I was actually 13, I just didn’t start posting till I was 14. So in reality I’ve been rapping for 7 years now.
