Meet Zachary Bouck of Denver

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zachary Bouck.

Hi Zachary, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I grew up in a big family with a small income in North Dakota. I was determined to figure out how to become financially secure because I lived the experience of Ramen & food stamps all through elementary school and high school.

I used to go home on my lunch break and watch CNBC, and I read everything I could from the Motley Fool. I wanted to be a business owner because it seemed like they had nice houses and nice cars. After graduation from CU, I opened a screen-printing shop in Aurora Colorado, and started listening to Dave Ramsey on the radio.

I realized that I wanted to think about investing and financial planning all day instead of printing t-shirts, so I joined Waddell & Reed in 2008 and then eventually left to become an independent RIA in 2012 with my business partner Blair Braden.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I was a financial advisor from 7 am – 3 pm and a valet from 3 pm to 11 pm for more years than I care to remember. Being a financial advisor has always been an entrepreneurial job so it took a few years to get going, so the grind was painful and real.

Things started to become more consistent after about three years, where I was able to be a financial advisor as my only job.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m most proud of the team Blair & I have put together to service our clients. We serve 590 households and have over $400 Million dollars in assets, so it’s a big job that requires a lot of experts.

We’re now in over 40 states so our team has grown nationwide, and because of COVID working remotely is actually a benefit to us and our employees.

We also do a podcast called ‘Mind of a Millionaire’ with over 100 episodes and 20,000+ downloads, as a way to keep educating people on the lessons we’ve learned from our clients.

How do you think about luck?
I did a podcast on the four types of luck!

When you are able to grow a company from $0 to $400M+ luck plays a huge role. Some luck you can find by grinding, like making hundreds of calls, and some luck seems to find you like divine intervention because you are on the career path you were meant to be on.

It seems to me that when you work hard-luck starts to find you, and we’ve been the recipient of both types of luck.
