Today we’d like to introduce you to Zaji-Kali Galanw
Hi Zaji-Kali, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey started as a book blogger, where I spent years diving deep into the world of romance—analyzing tropes, reviewing books, and connecting with a community of passionate authors and readers. I fell in love with storytelling through that process, but I always had my own stories brewing in the back of my mind.
One day, I decided to take the leap from reviewing love stories to writing them. I wanted to bring something fresh to the table—diverse small-town romances that feel real, emotional, and deeply rooted in themes of found family, redemption, and love that’s worth fighting for. Now I write under the pen name: Zea Kayleigh Galan
Now, I write books that blend the charm of small towns with the depth of complex, diverse characters who navigate love, heartache, and healing. It’s been an incredible journey, and I’m just getting started! I’ve got four books available at this time and many more to come!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has not been smooth but it’s been very valuable. One of the biggest challenges was the dreaded imposter syndrome—going from analyzing books to actually writing them felt daunting at first. I questioned whether my stories were good enough, whether readers would connect with my characters, and if I could truly stand out in the crowded romance market.
Another hurdle was learning the business side of publishing. Writing is one thing, but marketing, branding, and figuring out how to reach the right readers took time. And I’m still learning something new everyday, trying my best to figure out what works. Balancing creativity with strategy was a challenge, but I knew that if I wanted my books to thrive, I had to embrace both.
And of course, there was the challenge of representation in small-town romance. I wanted to bring more diversity to this beloved genre while staying true to the cozy, heartfelt, and deeply emotional stories readers love. Walking that line—honoring tradition while breaking barriers—isn’t always easy, but it’s something I’m passionate about.
Despite the struggles, every step has been worth it. Seeing readers fall in love with my stories and characters makes all the challenges fade into the background!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I write diverse, emotional small-town romance stories that blend deep feelings, rich settings, and swoon-worthy romance. My books are known for their angst, complex characters, and the kind of love that feels both raw and deeply healing. I specialize in writing romances that feel authentic and immersive, whether it’s a cowboy grappling with his past or a strong heroine learning to trust love again.
What I’m most proud of is building a space for underrepresented voices in small-town romance. My stories embrace the warmth and charm of close-knit communities while showcasing Black and Brown characters and their experiences. It’s important to me that readers see themselves reflected in the genre they love.
What sets me apart is my ability to weave deep emotion into every page. My background as a book blogger gave me a strong understanding of what readers crave—compelling characters, tension-filled relationships, and love stories that linger long after the last page. I don’t just write romance—I craft experiences that make readers feel every heated glance, every heartbreak, and every moment of hope.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success as connecting with readers in a meaningful way—when someone tells me that my book made them feel seen, gave them hope, or became a comfort read, that’s the ultimate reward. Success isn’t just about numbers or rankings (though hitting my goal of becoming an Amazon bestselling romance author would be amazing!) It’s about creating stories that leave a lasting impact.
I also see success as growth—both personally and professionally. Every book I write, every risk I take in storytelling, and every reader I reach is a step forward. If I can continue writing stories that make people feel deeply and stay true to my voice while doing it, then I know I’m exactly where I’m meant to be.
That’s success for me and something I feel is entirely attainable.
