Meghan Maxson of Sunnyside on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Meghan Maxson. Check out our conversation below.

Meghan, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Over the past few years, I’ve fallen in love with hot yoga and yoga sculpt classes at my neighborhood yoga studio. I try to get to a class at least 4 times/week. I’ve never had a workout that I’ve loved before so this is an exciting time for me!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Meghan Maxson, Owner and Lead Organizer with Streamlined Living Colorado LLC. Streamlined Living Colorado offers residential organizing services for busy professionals and families all over Colorado. I pride myself in creating order out of chaos and being of service to all of my clients, no matter the size of the project. One unique fact about my business compared to other organizing businesses is that I carry general organizing supplies with me and don’t up-charge for these items; I only ask for reimbursement. Having quality items on hand to use during the project not only speeds it along but can also eliminate the need for more sessions and save the client money. It’s a win-win for clients to not have to go shopping or pay me to go shopping for them!

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
I studied abroad in the South Pacific my last year in college and it was hands down, one of the most eye opening and beautiful learning experiences of my life. I loved exploring the different countries and cultures that were totally unfamiliar to me at that time. Through that experience, I made life long friends and it shaped how I see the world today. I can’t say enough good things about studying in a different country or experiencing other cultures in that way. I learned so much about myself while also learning so much about the world.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Don’t worry so much about what other people think! Everyone has their own stuff they are dealing with.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes! My client’s often ask me if my house is organized. It absolutely is…I tell my clients that “I walk the walk”. In fact, a friend of mine popped over to my house with her friend (who I didn’t know) and her friend said “Wow, your house is really organized!” and our mutual friend said “That’s what she does! She’s a Professional Organizer!” And then that woman ended up hiring me to get her family unpacked after their recent move 🙂

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I was absolutely born to do this; I’ve always been organized. Even as a child, I had my Barbie clothes and accessories organized in a compartmentalized container. As a teenager, I kept my bedroom and my car tidy and clean. I was taught that everything had it’s place and things should be put back after they are done being used. I’m definitely a person who needs to have order and tidiness in my surroundings in order for me to feel calm and relaxed.
