Neekan Rivera of Greenwood Village on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Neekan Rivera. Check out our conversation below.

Neekan, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Enjoying the simplest moments with my two young children.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
We are a facial aesthetics clinic with locations in Beverly Hills, CA and Greenwood Village, CO and pop ups in Vail, CO. We focus on natural rejuvenation, combining different modalities to help improve not only confidence but also the overall health of the skin. Our top priorities are safety and patient satisfaction. We also host a training center that includes a mentorship program helping guide and educate those who want to break into their aesthetics career. Both of our initial mentorship programs in each location sold out with a 50% hire rate of our graduates.. We recently partnered with a private equity company to further our growth and expansion.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
My dad, hands down. I’ve never seen a harder worker with more mental resiliency all while still prioritizing family life. My dad would be going through some of the most challenging times at work and you would never know it at home. He left his stress at the door. He again treated his employees very well, almost too well lol. But it taught me part of being an entrepreneur is not just the life you create for yourself but also the life you create for others.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
My faith taught me that often suffering has a purpose and it leads to greater strength and bigger blessings. Every time I felt a “failure” in my business, by preserving and with prayer it led to something greater. Some may attribute this to my own persistence but I know the things I prayed for in my business and they have all come to fruition. If we didn’t go through the hard times we wouldn’t have the team and the success we have now.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
Your people, your culture, is everything. Often analysts just look at numbers and revenue. I focused first on our culture and having the right team, then the numbers grew.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What will you regret not doing?
I would regret not making shifts in business to have more time for my family. In the earlier years I lost a lot of time with my family. I missed milestones, family gatherings, moments with my grandma. I had to make decisions that ultimately led a to a better work life balance so I don’t look back and regret it all.
