Today we’d like to introduce you to Alana Botdorf
Hi Alana, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
As many experience my career has taken a few twists and turns ending up not where I imagined I’d be but on a much more exciting path. Originally, I majored in finance with the intent to pursue investment banking then go work for a private equity or venture capitalist firm. I ending up working in wealth management only to find as much as I enjoy finance as a topic the grueling hours chained to a desk was ultimately never going to make me happy. We’ve all heard the saying “pursue your passion” and it’s hard to appreciate how valid that advice is until you work at a job you don’t enjoy. Life is short, why wouldn’t you do something you love to make money?
In college I had gotten very into fitness and eventually competing in my first bodybuilding show. I always had a passion for nutrition, cooking, holistic health, and longevity. I had grown up with a mom where natural remedies were the go to and instinctively it made sense to me what we put in our bodies will result in our quality of life. I dove in the nutrition and supplement industry with an appetite to learn everything I could. Since I was deep in the fitness world I was familiar with the fact many supplements aren’t bioavailable, masking cheap ingredients with clever marketing, and majority being a waste of money. Present day, being able to help propel a holistic health approach into the hands of families is what drives me. There is so much noise as to what to do be healthy and we make it simple by putting plant powders (ground up fruits and vegetables) into a capsule. Majority of people are focused on the macros (fats, proteins, carbs) but almost everyone overlooks the power of micronutrients, the little mechanisms that keep your entire system running in the background from vitamin k to copper to selenium. Those deficiencies often go disregarded which over time compounds to someone’s body functioning missing many of the essential nutrients. Plant powders are the future of medicine, it is the simplest way to get thousands of different micronutrients into the body. No chemicals, additivites, or any ingredients required besides fruits and vegetables. We’ve spent decades manufacturing quick health fixes that do more harm than good, it’s time we revert back to simplicity. As Hippocrates said, let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Anything worth having takes hard work. An inevitable part of the journey is obstacles, after all there is no outstanding movie where the main character had it easy from day one without a single hurdle to their goal.
I’d define entrepreneurship as “a personal development program disguised as a business”. It is impossible to grow professionally without evolving yourself. There are two specific evolutions I’ve gone through. The first is from individual contributor to leadership. A leader isn’t a title, it’s a skill, one that must be developed with great care. Being a strong leader means being able to initiate and face tough conversations, remaining calm and solution-oriented under pressure, learning to lead all types of personalities, and putting what’s right for the business before what’s easy. Anyone can be successful on their own with hard work, it’s an entirely different skill to be able to help make other people successful. Secondary to that, I’ve gone from a place of self to service. A lot of our careers start out focused on how much we can achieve whether it’s chasing a job title, an income level, etc. it’s inherently focused on the self. The biggest shift in my work is focusing now on service to others, how many people can I impact? How many people can I help? Zig Ziglar’s quote of “if you help as many people as you can get what the want, you will inevitably end up with what you want” speaks volumes to me. It’s putting the mission, community, and those you want to help with your business above success for yourself. Those are the people that put in the work for decades after they’ve made their money because it’s not about the material success it’s about the mission. That’s where I’ve shifted to in my work and it’s the most driven I’ve ever felt, it’s an unlimited fuel source to keep me going.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am most proud of being a part of a mission to spread healthy living around the world and make quality nutrition accessible to as many people as possible. We are currently in over 25 countries and growing with the goal to keep expanding. We offer fruits and vegetables in a capsule. Even better, kids get the product (there is a gummy version) for free up to 25 years old. It’s hard for people to adopt an aggressive workout program or strict diet overnight but every can take a capsule, it’s one simple change. There’s nothing else in the plant powders but fruits and vegetables so we’ve had all kinds of clients on the capsules from pregnant women to chemo patients, ensuring they get the highest quality nutrition possible especially in a crucial health stage.
Personally, my goal is to keep inspiring people to not only be healthy but to chase the life they desire. A few years ago I really dove into my passion for public speaking and that has become my avenue for contributing outside of my day to day. Beyond working to educate as many people as possible on health and wellness, I’ve poured a lot more of my energy into developing content and talks around business, sales, personal growth, productivity hacks, and mindset. Onstage with a microphone is where I feel most at home and I want to continue to utilize public speaking as forum to help as many people as I can.
Any big plans?
In the immediate future my focus is on expanding my message through speaking, podcasts, and throwing more events to build community around those pillars of health, wellness, growth, mindset, and business. I’m looking forward to expanding my speaking career not only for the mission but also to help inspire others to jump in on their dreams. We live an incredible era where anyone can build a personal brand online, gain recognition, attract dream clients, and create a platform to support their mission. The opportunity we have at our fingertips is truly incredible and it’s time to take action. We are shifting away from the old paradigm where success was largely dependent on pedigree and into a new digital economy where the most passionate can become self-educated and create a brand to build a career.
My overall goal is to continue building a strong community helping people be healthier, empowered, pouring into their personal growth, and passionate about getting the most out of life. It’s an incredible feeling when you see the sparkle in someone’s eye when you guide them to believe in themselves, that is my favorite thing about speaking and leadership.
