Rising Stars: Meet Beth Jankowski of Highlands Ranch

Today we’d like to introduce you to Beth Jankowski.

Hi Beth, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m a proud Colorado native and have called the Highlands Ranch community home for 36 years. I grew up in North Denver as one of 13 children—12 girls and one boy! Growing up in such a large family taught me the value of hard work and integrity in everything I do.

I began my career in the IT industry, where I was trained on the job as a software programmer. After getting married and having my second son, I decided to step away from that field. By the time I was ready to return, the industry had changed dramatically. That’s when I asked myself, What do I truly love to do?

While decorating a bathroom in our new home in Highlands Ranch, I discovered my passion for design. I had already been sewing window coverings for my own home, as well as for friends and family, and realized this was something I truly enjoyed.

My career in interior design began when I joined my good friend Geri Bigum at Staging Denver, working as a stager while also fabricating window coverings for some of our projects. I later joined Budget Blinds, where I expanded my expertise by selling shutters, blinds, and soft treatments, some of which I fabricated. Learning multiple product lines was challenging but invaluable—it gave me the confidence and knowledge to start my own design business.

Initially, I focused solely on window coverings, but as I spent more time in clients’ homes, many began asking for help with other design elements like rugs, furniture, and accessories. That led me to take on full design projects and remodels, always with a focus on window coverings as my specialty. Over time, I developed strong partnerships with fabric stores and other designers, which helped grow my client base.

As my business evolved, I found my niche in custom window coverings, a detail-oriented specialty that many designers prefer to outsource. Today, I continue to work with my own clients as well as collaborate with designers to provide that perfect finishing touch—custom window coverings, bedding, and upholstery.

My background in computer technology has also allowed me to expand into home automation for window coverings, partnering with designers and builders on several new home projects. It’s been an incredible journey combining creativity, craftsmanship, and technology to transform spaces and enhance how people live in their homes.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve been in this business for 20 years as a sole entrepreneur. I handle everything—from marketing and sales to project management and bookkeeping. This industry can be unpredictable—sometimes it’s overwhelming and nonstop, other times it slows to a crawl. During the slower periods, I focus on catching up and tackling the tasks that get pushed aside when things get hectic.

One of the biggest challenges is that no two homes, windows, or jobs are ever the same. Every project comes with its own set of puzzles to solve, and yes, sometimes mistakes happen—and they can be costly. I like to say that my mistakes are my college education in window coverings! What matters most to me is making things right for the client, no matter the cost. Their satisfaction keeps them coming back and encourages them to recommend me to others.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Inspired Spaces is a custom window covering and soft treatment design studio specializing in creating beautiful, functional, and truly personalized spaces. I carry a wide selection of products and fabric samples, which I bring directly to your home. Meeting in your space allows us to choose materials and colors that perfectly complement your existing finishes—tile, carpet, rugs, furniture, and paint tones.

What truly sets Inspired Spaces apart is my design background. I’m not just helping you select a blind or shade—I’m looking at the whole picture, ensuring that each choice enhances your home’s overall style and feel. At the same time, I make sure your window coverings meet your practical needs, whether that’s light control, privacy, or energy efficiency.

Beyond window coverings, I also design the finishing touches that make a home feel complete—custom bedding, draperies, valances, Roman shades, upholstery projects, bench seats, pillows, and outdoor cushions. Every detail is crafted with care and precision.

When I work with clients, customer care and satisfaction are always my top priorities. Clear communication is key—I keep you updated every step of the way so you always know where your project stands. Over the years, many of my client relationships have grown into lasting friendships. Some have even invited me back to help them redesign their homes through different life stages and transitions, which is one of the greatest rewards of what I do.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
When I first started out, I partnered with a local fabric store. I created displays for their showroom, and in return, they referred clients to me. It was a great way to get my name out there and start building a client base. I tried a few leads groups along the way, but I quickly realized that the best connections came from working with other professionals—designers, realtors, and tradespeople—where we could genuinely refer business to one another.

As I began collaborating with more designers, I decided to create my own little “power group” of design friends. We meet once a month to share ideas, talk through challenges, and, of course, enjoy a little wine together! It’s become such a supportive and inspiring circle—we’ve not only built strong professional relationships but also wonderful friendships over the years.

My happiest clients have always been my best source of new business. Their satisfaction and referrals are truly the foundation of my success. Without happy clients, I wouldn’t have a business, and I never take that for granted.

As the internet has evolved, I’ve also embraced new ways to connect with people. I’ve made use of platforms like Houzz, Nextdoor, and Google to showcase my work and reach new audiences. After every project, I ask clients for reviews and referrals—it’s been so rewarding to see my business grow organically. These days, many new clients find me online, often through the kind words and recommendations of others, which is the best compliment I could ever receive.
